Allison Russell performed at the beginning of the event and local activists and workers spoke first. It was a wonderful experience and I am happy I went, though I wonder if there shouldn't have been a more cleadirect call to action - the crowd was stoked and the energy levels were high, and then it was over and everyone just left. I saw a few folks from the local DSA handing out flyers and one of the mayoral candidates there, but that was about it. I don't mean academic freedom in the traditional sense. A lack of academic freedom to me would mean having to apply to a specific school within a university, being restrained within that school, having to decide what to study really early on, and not being able to switch schools/majors. Many examples can be found in large public state schools. The opposite of that would be applying to the university as a whole, it being easy to switch between majors/schools, not being confined to what you said you were interested in on the application, etc. A good example of this is Brown. Is there an easy way online to assess the academic freedom of different schools? I find it surprisingly hard to find this info.

That is to state that 1) That everything happens due to a butterfly effect including the chemical reactions in our minds that produce thoughts. Of course that still means we have ‘free will’ in a sense that by not beliving in this unprovable idea, you can live with complete free will in your reality.
2) That the present does not mean shit. The future and the past are just as real and concrete. Our perspective is just stuck in our own relative of time. In other words, everything that is happening is like written in the middle of a history book about the history of the universe. We are just playing a role.
3) the depressing bit: if you belive that, everything is predetermined, it’s easy to just give up on what your fighting against and think ‘I must have given up because I was meant to. If the circumstances were right, I would have continued. I should accept my fate for whatever it is as it’s unavoidable’.
Note: I’m not too familiar to philosophy or theories in science but am eager to learn if it’s part of discussion.

My husband was T-boned in an intersection 2 weeks ago. A woman in a brand new Mercedes gunned it through the red light, obliterating her car while having small children present. My husband had a state trooper behind him that saw/recorded everything. Initially My husband had no physical issues. But for the past 3 days he keeps waking up in pain. My dilemma is my husband thinks it's "greedy" to hire a personal injury lawyer. He thinks those lawyers are "ambulance chasers". He wants to use vacation time to recover and spend our savings on medical care. I'm angry because this woman's actions and my husband's stubbornness have resulted in this situation, where it looks like all of our savings will be depleted. I'm not sure how to handle this. Can I ask his doctor to advise him to seek an attorney or is that not something a doctor can legally advise? I'm at a loss on how to convince my husband not to squander our savings to spare his ego. Has anyone been through a similar situation and were able to convince their injured loved one to take legal help, If so how did you do it?

Gotcha!!!! I bet you clicked on this expecting to read some racist things based on the title... Well, not gonna happen, I actually think Halle Bailey is a phenomenal performer and embodies the grace and charms of Ariel amazingly, her race is completely irrelevant to me, so yeah, you've been clickbaited... But I do have some thoughts that may be a little controversial about this new adaptation and I wanna discuss them here, I'm open to all opinions and by no means I think it is a bad movie so any words you wanna throw on the comments are welcome. If you haven't seen the movie, don't read cause it may contain some SPOILERS, I personally haven't seen it but I couldn't care less about SPOILERS so I've listened to the soundtrack, read and saw reviews and actual scenes from it.
Before I dig into explaining why I think this movie is ''Problematic'' I would like to highlight all the positive bits within it so I don't sound like I'm just whining. First, Ariel... Halle Bailey's voice is beautiful, such good control and technique and what an amazing delivery, no wonder why Eric got obsessed with it. Her rendition of Part Of Your World not only does justice to Jodi Benson, it also mastered it in my opinion. Melissa's take on Poor Unfortunate Souls is also amazing, she sounds sassy and compelling and really different to the original which I think was a very nice fresh change. About the lyrics change here, I understand why they did it, I've heard many people making a good point about Ursula obviously lying to Ariel in order to convince her to give out her voice and while I think it is a legit point and I personally don't feel triggered by the old verse that was cut out I also understand how some people may find those words outdated and feel triggered by them, so once more that's not a problem for me, plus it makes the song slightly shorter which can be a good thing considering the original was really long. I know people are gonna kill me for saying this, especially because this is a Musical Theatre subreddit and not a Movie Musicals one so I'm assuming most of you guys will disagree with what I have to say now, but I'll do it anyways cause it is my opinion and that's what I'm sharing... I like Eric's new song ''Wild Uncharted Waters'' better than ''Her Voice'', oops... I said it. I think it serves his character development in a better way as he states his motivations and interests here and it is not just three minutes of him singing about a girl's voice, yeah, I mean he does it too here but at the same time he tells us a little bit about himself. About the hyperrealistic animals... Well... I am not a fan of it and I know I'll have a hard time buying all the emotions those amazing voice actors delivered but at least they didn't do what CATS did... Thankfully.

There are two small details in this new live action that they added to make the movie more appealing to a contemporary society that I feel actually give a negative message. This may be controversial and if you disagree with me, you're totally allowed to have an opinion, plus I am not from the USA so I am basing this on my country's society. So yeah, all triggering warnings settled, let's shoot: The lyric change in ''Kiss The Girl'', I think it was completely unnecessary, from a musical point of view it doesn't really alter the song's structure but it is the reason why this change was made what I find problematic. The intention is really noble and I do support it, we have to teach kids about consent and that it is not okay to go out and try to kiss anyone because you just assumed they liked you, but the context, think about the context for God's sake, no woman will go on a romantic date with a man they're not interested in (Well, maybe they will, I don't know, I'm not a woman, you tell me if I'm wrong) and from my personal experiences and my friends' and I could use the story of my first date with my current girlfriend to back me up, women get really turned off when a man asks permission to kiss them. If you ask her ''Can I kiss you?'' or something like that, you're most likely gonna be rejected. So what are we doing now? Making an incels factory song? Teaching boys how to be rejected so they end up hating women after failing for the 100th time? Plus it is just a kiss, I certainly doubt any decent man will use his physically superior strength to immobilize a woman so he can kiss her, if she doesn't want to be kissed, she can throw her head back and that's it, if he gets offended, well, he was just a shitty person to start then, but any decent man would just apology and change the subject. I am all down for female representation and empowering but I feel like this change rather than doing this, what it does is destroy Eric's character. I know the original animated Little Mermaid is the first Disney film from their renaissance because it settled the standard for what direction Disney was going from that date and I recently rewatched it again and believe me, I am surprised of how feminist this film actually is, maybe not in the same way as Brave (another film I adore) which shows a warrior woman who is not interested in stereotypically girly things but not because of that she is less of a woman than any other. The whole story is about a woman breaking the rules and not just submitting silently to what a man (her father) tells her to do. He had left in the middle of the night so he wouldn’t have to be there to explain it to me. Fast forward to summer 2021 and he’s marrying a woman he’s been with for a year. 6 months after he broke up with mom. You do the math.
I wasn’t very close to his parents and hadn’t been since 2014 when we moved away from them. We didn’t talk until mamaw was dying. Even then, I was the one to call them.
Last night my dad texted me to call him, I was on the way to get my bf(25m) from work, so I was talking to him in the car. He told me papaw’s not doing well and he doesn’t think he’ll live much longer and he was going to drive down to spend two weeks with him. My aunt already moved in with him to help, but from aug13-16th both he and aunt would be gone on vacation so he wanted me to come take care of papaw.
I live 12hrs away. A train ticket would be 1000 for a round trip. I really cant afford that right now, as i’m working part time bc i’m also in school.
I would be there alone, with my diabetic fall-prone grieving papaw, for days with no car. It would take the ambulance 1.5 hrs to get there if anything happened.
He said he knows it’s a lot of money and he was calling me now so I could save up for it. I said i’d talk to mom and bf to see what they thought I should do.
He also said he was gonna call bro(21m) to ask him, but i told him not to bc he works so much and has two babies, he has way too much on his plate already.
So we hung up and I called my mom and she was like “no, you can’t do that,” and when I told her why I thought I should and I felt guilty for not being there and dad said he missed me she told me that I can’t afford it, I’m not a nurse, I don’t even know CPR. That’s when bf came out and got in the car and was immediately like “what happened??”
He’s the most level-headed person I know so when I say he was livid while my mom was trying to explain it, he says he’s going to call my dad and i’m panicking begging him not to bc I don’t want my dad to yell at him but he told me to just go inside and he’d handle it. When he came in he told me he called my bro instead.
Apparently mom called bro first and he got mad, said he would ‘handle‘ dad. He told me not to stress about it bc it was ‘inappropriate for him to expect me to drop my life so he and aunt could go on vacation instead of taking care of his dad when he needs them’

Please help me untangle my thoughts. By no means do I fully understand what I'm talking about in the following but I think I understand it enough to pose this question. Consider the following argument:
The circumstances of his mind being reinstatiated, could be anything. He could be in agonising pain for a thousand years before things start changing again and he maybe dies again, only for his mind to be reinstatiated in complete bliss for the next 1000 years. All the while remembering everything, or at least some, of what has occured to him in his last two lifeteimes because he felt a sense of continuity throughout these lives. The first time he died, he just woke up again in a place that will toruture him for 1000 years until he died and then woke up again in the blissful place. This sense of continuity and retaining of one's personhood seems pretty plausible to me as, just as we fall asleep for 10 hours, we don't feel like 10 hours passed, Bob won't feel like much time has passed if his brain remains destroyed for a long time and gets reassembled into his prior state of consciousness.
I feel like a complete moron and nut for taking this seriously but this makes me genuinely anxious. The thought that it is somewhat likely for my mind to be reinstatiated in the future without me noticing the billion year absence and the circumstances of this being entirely unknown is frightening. anything possible might happen.
So now the actual question:
Are there any informations that I'm not taking into consideration that might ease my worries? Maybe the argument is far more unsound than I consider it to be? Maybe I'm missing something that makes poincare recurrence less likely?

Now I'm 29. I didn't finish university and started working at 22 (although you could say that I've been juggling work and studies since I was 18). Throughout my life, I've always dedicated myself to helping those who ask for my assistance.
In 2018, I was conscripted into the army when I was 25, despite my mother being disabled and unable to leave the apartment on her own. This period was very traumatic for me, as I lost my job and didn't know if I would be able to find something else afterwards. After my service ended, I decided to take a couple of months off to recover mentally.
In the spring of 2020, my grandmother's neighbor called me and said she couldn't reach her for several days. I immediately responded and went to her apartment, but I couldn't get in because she had left the keys in the lock. We called the fire department to help us enter through the window. They found my grandmother on the floor in a delirious state. As I was later told by the orthopedics department, she had a fractured shinbone. The ambulance brought her back home on the same day. After some thought, I decided to take care of my grandmother until she recovered.
At first, everything was going well, and I easily took on all the household chores at my grandmother's place, while also helping my mother, who lives in the neighboring house. I helped my grandmother with bathing, kept the apartment clean, and my mother assisted with cooking for her.
By autumn, things became much harder as my grandmother's dementia started progressing, although everyone vehemently denied it. She couldn't remember recent events and confused me with my father a couple of times. Also, on her birthday that autumn, I lost my temper when she accidentally spilled food, and I yelled at her in anger. Looking back, I realize I was emotionally and physically exhausted, and I shouldn't have done that because she was unwell.
As for work, things were worse because the COVID-19 pandemic hit, and no one was responding to my resume or willing to hire me. During the time I was taking care of my grandmother, we lived on a portion of her pension, some of which was sent by her nieces, and also on my mother's pension. The nieces kept half of my grandmother's pension for themselves, as they didn't want me to rely on her, even though I asked for financial help to buy medication to improve her blood circulation and more food.
In the spring of 2021, my grandmother and I had a major argument, and in a foolish act, I left her. My aunts (my grandmother's nieces) pushed me to that point. They considered me an enemy to my grandmother and constantly threatened to leave us without support if I did "anything to her." This was despite her being able to walk and go outside. They decided on my behalf that the care of my grandmother would be entrusted to the neighbor with whom they had been in contact all this time. I agreed and went home. A couple of times, I tried to visit my grandmother, but she refused to let me in.
A couple of weeks later, my aunts contacted me and accused me of stealing electronics and food. I managed to enter the apartment and helped find the modems and routers that my grandmother had damaged with a knife and thrown onto the balcony. No one ever apologized to me. I stopped visiting my grandmother altogether, only making calls once a week to check on her well-being.
During the summer, I found a great job, and things started to improve for me. In the fall, I was able to fly to Russia to obtain citizenship and find a better-paying job. My mother was alone, but I arranged for a friend whom I paid to visit her and deliver groceries. I had less frequent contact with my grandmother, almost once a month. While in Russia, I sorted out my thoughts and finally came to the realization that I shouldn't take the words of someone suffering from dementia to heart. By summer, everything worked out with my job and documents, but returning home became more difficult due to... yes. Only by fall was I able to save enough money for a return flight home, working double shifts of 12 hours each (alternating between night and day shifts).

Upon returning home, I started visiting my grandmother, but I was always accompanied by the neighbor, as if constant supervision was required. Later, she explained that my grandmother was afraid of me. A few months ago, I was completely barred from seeing her, with the explanation that my grandmother didn't want to see me.

One day, unable to handle the pressure, I went to the Russian police to file a complaint against my aunts for not fully sending my grandmother's pension. I also sought help from the local police to retrieve the keys. Our local police refused to assist me, citing that I wasn't registered at my grandmother's apartment, and they didn't know my intentions.
A couple of weeks later, I was advised to contact the prosecutor's office, which I did. Now, I'm waiting for a response.

But in truth, the music of Wyld Stallyns is so bodacious, so non-heinous, so excellent that it brings about an era of prosperity, both across the earth and to the stars beyond, and technological advancement so advanced that even time can be accessed as freely as a 10-digit phone number from the nearest payphone. Because of this, agents from the future utopia have sent back a time-travelling phone booth as well as information about the future to make sure that Bill and Ted are able to continue having most excellent adventures and fulfill the destiny of Wyld Stallyns.

Time Travel- A time machine that can travel to any place and time on earth after dialing a specific number. The number for each time and place is listed in an attached directory which catalogues most important points in history. EA
- It is stressed multiple times throughout the series that even while time travelling, the clock in San Dimas is running, so Bill and Ted still have a limited amount of time to accomplish their goals while time travelling. EA This isn't well supported by other events and usages of the booth in the series, but it is a consistent concern regardless.
- Bill and Ted can use the Phone Booth to interact with themselves in the past, giving themselves needed equipment or advice. EA
- Allow Bill and Ted to leave and then return to the exact same point in time, with 16 months of training in between. BJ
- A trip through spacetime can be cut short and will cause the booth to reappear at a median point. CS1E2
