2023.05.04 02:21 Mundane_Whereas_2764 Unsolved Cases from Within Pennsylvania
Hi, guys! I’m a Pittsburgh native so it just made sense to do a list of cases within the Pennsylvania area that deserve more attention than they get. I’m on a roll with all of these posts lately.
•
Maria Nina Miller: Maria was last seen on February 5, 2011, and she was 34 years old at the time of her disappearance.
Miller was last seen at Dandy Mini Mart on Route 6, in Wysoux, Pennsylvania, where she worked. She was last seen within the hours of February 4th into the 5th, where she told her coworkers she was traveling into West Virginia with her husband to visit his sick mother. Kenneth Miller picked her up that night, and once in the parking lot of the hospital, they got into an argument. Maria insisted he take her to Virginia Beach, and he proceeded to drop her off at a random apartment complex along the beach. She was not reported missing until June 10th.
She was supposed to return for a midnight shift on February 7th, but she never did. There is little to no information on why nobody working there raised suspicion on her sudden no-call no-shows, but it can be assumed that she up and moved again since her husband’s job was an army recruiter of sorts.
Her husband claims he has no idea where she is. His phone records and other belongings were seized by the court shortly after her disappearance. Police will not comment on whether he is an official suspect or not.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Pennsylvania State Police in Towanda at 570-265-2186, the Troop P Criminal Investigation Assessment Unit at 570-822-5515, or the FBI Pittsburgh field office at 800-CALLFBI or tips.fbi.gov.
•
Sarah Rae Boehm: Sarah was 14 years old whenever she went missing from an area within Beaver County, Pennsylvania. She was reported missing on July 14, 1994, and her remains were discovered November 4, 1994, in an area of an Ohio state park titled “Berlin Reservoir” or known as “Berlin Lake.” She was not identified until 2003, however.
Her case is believed to be connected with that of murdered 17-year old Kathryn Menedez, whose nude body was found just days later, 1/2 a mile from where Sarah’s was discovered.
Sarah was described as an animal lover who also frequented her local church. She was a focused student, who was also in band, and on the cheerleading team.
She was last seen on July 14, 1994, when she reportedly left her home in Rochester to go stay at a friend, Jennifer’s, house. She was reported missing by her mother after she failed to report for a counseling meeting she had scheduled.
Jennifer then explained to her parents that Sarah had NEVER been at her house the night before. This is what led investigators to determine the girl ran away.
Her parents later discovered a note under her pillow titled “to whoever cares.” Only parts of the note has been released, but the main portion her mother focused on read, “I’m just a burden. I cause problems. I’ve already learned you don’t have time for me.” The note also mentioned an abusive man she had met who had given her love that she didn’t receive at home.
Suspicion quickly fell on her family. Her parents were divorcing, as her father, Jack, was an alcoholic with a gambling problem. To make matters worse, a few years after Sarah vanished, he was arrested for the sexual assault of a 12 year old girl.
Detectives were CONVINCED this would lead to a conviction within the case, but after years of grilling Jack, they found no evidence, and managed to clear him of involvement.
This led them back to the note that Sarah had left, which further stated, “I met a guy who gave me love and whatever I was not getting at home. He was very, very abusive. Didn't anyone wonder why I was always injured?" This unidentified man was the most obvious suspect, and remains so to this day. They believe he was the one who also took the life of Kathryn.
Another brief suspect was a man that has always remained unidentified. A few months prior to her disappearance, Sarah reported that a man tried to abduct her as she left church. We have no details on who this man was, or if he ever tried again.
Despite this, in 2022, detectives stated they had a possible suspect they wanted to polygraph. They said he had already been in jail previously, serving time, but would not say for what. No further updates have been given beyond this point.
The Pittsburgh FBI is asking for tips in the case. If you can help, call (412) 432-4000.
• Karen Denise Wells: While not a Pennsylvania native, she disappeared from somewhere around Carlisle, Pennsylvania. She was 23 at the time of her disappearance. She was on a cross country trip from Oklahoma to New Jersey. At the time of her disappearance, she was raising a young son, and was unemployed.
On April 12, Denise checked into the Pike Motel in the 1100 block of Harrisburg Pike in Carlisle, PA. She called her friend at around 7:00pm to let her know she’d be unable to make it to New Jersey. During this conversation, the friend agreed to drive to the motel the next morning so they could meet there instead. Denise was last seen at 8:00PM by the front desk receptionist asking for directions to a Mcdonald’s.
Denise’s friend arrived to the motel just after midnight on April 13th. The room had to be opened by a clerk, where she found all of her friend’s belongings, an open box of cigarettes, but an unslept in bed. Her rental car was later found abandoned at 5:40AM in a rural area along Route 274. The vehicle was out of fuel, and the battery was dead. There were over 500-600 miles on the odometer that her travels could not account for.
The driver and passenger side doors were left open. While there were no signs of a struggle, police stated there were unspecified indicators of criminal activity. Denise’s purse was later found in a nearby ditch with all of her money still inside. They managed to secure a timeline using call logs and phone records.
Police have never named an official suspect, but believe that those they interviewed knew more than they let on. Her family has had her legally declared dead.
The investigating agency is the Pennsylvania State Police: 717-249-2121. Please call with any information. • Sources:

News Link:
https://www.accesswire.com/749438/Halberd-and-YSU-Interviewed-on-CBS-Affiliate-WKBN-5pm-News-as-Research-Advances JACKSON CENTER, PA / ACCESSWIRE / April 17, 2023 / Halberd Corporation's
(OTC PINK:HALB) successful patent protected research being conducted at Youngstown State University (YSU) on antibiotic resistant bacteria and deadly Candida auris was recently featured in a
news segment on Youngstown, OH CBS News affiliate television station,
WKBN. Professors and student scholar lab assistants are conducting this intricate research on samples provided by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).
Dr. Cooper, Professor, Department of Chemical and Biological Sciences at YSU oversees the preparation of test samples of these antibiotic resistant bacteria. Researchers conjugate metallic nanoparticles and antibodies with an affinity for the target pathogens. Then they submit them to Dr. Sturrus' lab for laser exposure. Dr. Cooper's lab then evaluates the results after exposure to carefully crafted laser irradiation.
Dr. Cooper stated, "Then we take the bacteria out and try to grow them again. And, we find out that we are killing 90 - 95% of them … and leave the good bacteria alone" This was accomplished in under 10 minutes of laser exposure. These findings were recently presented to the CDC.
Dr. Sturrus, Chair and Professor, Physics, Astronomy Geology and Earth Science Department said of the students participating in the project, "When you talk atomic physics to students, they are sort of, 'What? Why?' But if you do something that kills bacteria, they're like, 'Hey! That's cool! I want to do that.'"
After learning of Halberd's success, the CDC offered to send additional potent strains of antibiotic resistant bacteria and fungi to YSU to be tested against Halberd's patented and patent-pending laser eradication methodology.
William A. Hartman, Halberd's Chairman, President & CEO added, "Using this technology, we will be treating disease (safely), outside of the body." This patented extracorporeal methodology, permits the extraction of infected bodily fluids for treatment prior to returning the cleansed bodily fluids to the body. Uniquely, the Halberd process is designed to accomplish this without potentially harmful antibiotics or drug side-effects.

2023.02.28 01:54 Nearby-Complaint Two John Does Identified By Youngstown Police Department
https://www.wkbn.com/news/local-news/police-attorney-general-making-announcement-on-human-remains/ by:
Joe Gorman -
Part of a mystery that began when a man’s remains were found in 1987 has been solved after police Monday announced they have been able to identify him.
And with the way technology has advanced in recent years, the second part of the mystery — how
Robert Earl Sanders, 22, of Parkwood Avenue, died, may be achievable someday.
“This bounces all over the place,” added Chief of Detectives Capt. Jason Simon. “Cold cases are frequently solved by people giving us information and connections. This case is all about connections.”
The bust that was unveiled at an August press conference, seeking help in identifying the set of bones found that were later determined to be Sanders at a cemetery in the Sharon Line neighborhood of the East Side, also helped police solve the fate of a Toledo man who went missing in 1981.
Sanders’ identity was announced Monday at a press conference at the Covelli Centre by city police, the state Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation, and the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.
-
Sanders was reported missing on Aug. 13, 1976, by his mother, who told police she had last seen her son on Aug. 9, 1976. The report added his mother told the officer “it is not like him to leave.”
A 71-year-old man and his grandson were hunting for squirrels on Sept. 10, 1987, at Liberty Road and Atkinson Avenue near
Mount Hope Cemetery when they found a skull, reports said. Other bones included a clavicle, a scapula, and some teeth.
The bones were taken to the anthropology department at Youngstown State University to be examined further, but for some reason, that examination either never took place or any record of that examination is missing.
The bones remained there until a former anthropology student at YSU reached out to the police in August 2021 about the bones. The student told police she had thought of the bones over the years and was concerned because no one ever found out the identity of the person they belonged to.
“With that phone call, a case that been cold for 34 years grew warm,” Simon said.
That is when police called in BCI, who did a bust of the face based on the bones available and announced it at an Aug. 25 press conference at the police department. It didn’t take long for police to get a tip on who the person may have been.
Sweeney said a man called from Cincinnati and told police they had the wrong race for the bust. The man said the bust belonged to a white person and said the man’s name was Theodore Long, 19, who went missing in 1981 from Toledo. Sweeney said the caller was wrong about the man’s race — the bust represented a black man — but he listened to the caller’s story and in turn contacted Toledo police.
Between the two departments, they learned of
a man whose remains were fished out of a creek in Fayette County. The man was never identified, but investigators did have his fingerprints on file, where they stayed for years.
Sweeney was in contact with Toledo police while BCI consulted Columbus police. Toledo police used the fingerprints they had on file for Long, and they matched the corpse that was fished out of
the creek in 1981.
But while investigators knew of Long’s fate, they still did not know who the skull and other bones found on the East Side belonged to. Investigators sent the bones they had to Othram Labs in The Woodlands, Texas, to be tested. Othram specializes in getting molecular DNA from bones. They shared their findings with an Akron-based group that specializes in missing persons cases, the Porch Light Project, which helped pay for the testing with a grant.
With the DNA profile that was compiled, Porch Light was able to do a genealogical DNA search that led them to Sanders’ family. A family member then submitted a DNA sample when contacted, and that confirmed that the skull belonged to Sanders.
A cause of death for Sanders is officially listed as “undetermined,” but Sweeney said he was hopeful that someone can call with some information. Investigators may be able to learn how and even when he died. At the time he was found, investigators believed the skull had been there for three to five years
Identifying both men is crucial for investigators to try and figure out how Sanders and Long died, Yost said.
“This is just the beginning. This is not the end,” Yost said.
The woman who informed Sweeney about Sanders’ bones in the first place, Alisa Yelkin, also spoke. She said she first saw Sanders during a class when his skull was in what she termed a lost and found box.
“I wondered who he was, I wondered what he looked like,” she said.
Over the years, she spoke to police several times but they did not take her seriously, she said. But when she reached out to Sweeney after reading an article about his work in cold cases, she felt comfortable that he would work the case as best he could.
Fayette County Sheriff Vernon P. Stanforth said his agency has been trying to identify Long for years and he said he was very appreciative of Youngstown’s help in the case. He said Long’s death has been ruled a homicide.
“We now have a name as our detectives work this homicide case,” Stanforth said.

CDC Updates Profile For Vinyl Chloride Days Before Ohio Train Derailment, And Removes Section On How It Affects Children East Palestine switching to ‘MyID’ emergency service (from Oct 2022)
From an article on a website Reddit won't allow people to post links from:
On January 26, Ohio local affiliate WKBN
announced East Palestine would begin making “an important medical device available to all 4,700 residents” starting January 29.
“The MyID program is ready to roll out in East Palestine. It’s a medical information system that helps first responders provide care,” WKBN reported. “MyID provides wearable devices or key FOBs that have QR codes. Emergency responders use a camera phone to access important medical information.”
......
In addition to the eerie timing of the MyID rollout, the movie White Noise released on Netflix 11 months ago depicts an Ohio train derailment that was filmed in East Palestine. In the film, a college professor who teaches in a fictionalized Ohio town must leave his home with his wife after a train derails and harmful chemicals are released into the air.
......
When pressed for more information about the disastrous train derailment, Moore’s associates who are first responders and railroad workers are tight-lipped. They were required to sign a non-disclosure agreement prohibiting them from discussing the incident. “The local major hospital institute has told all of their employees that they are forbidden to speak out about anything related to this toxic spill. They are not allowed to do interviews, they are not allowed to go on camera, write quotes or comment about anything going on. Experts from the local community have been told, ‘Do not speak, this is not your business this is the business of the federal government, the state government, and the railroad company,” Moore said. “They all received emails and work calls. Some of them have inquired about speaking and they were told to keep out of it.”
