2023.06.03 16:18 cerrathegreat [TOMT][CD][2006~2010] High School Musical Cover CD, Illustration of a Basketball on the Disc

I remember when I was a kid, somewhere around 2008-2010, my mom gave me a High School Musical cover CD (I think she got it from a friend) because I was a fan of the movies. I believe I got it without its case in just an unlabeled white sleeve, but I might be misremembering. What I do remember is that the disc had an illustration of a basketball as its visual, and was otherwise completely unlabeled.
The CD was fairly short; I remember there only being like 6 tracks and maybe a few instrumentals? The tracks that were there were out of order, but all from the first movie, from what I remember. I remember at one point, I uploaded rips of the CD to Youtube with accompanying images drawn in MS Paint, but those videos were taken down for copyright and the channel they were uploaded to has long since been deleted.
I've already ruled out that it could be an official CD; it was definitely a studio recording so it couldn't be from any concert performances, and it had clearly-different voices from the original cast. I also can't find any Disney compilation CDs that would match the description. The one lead I was able to find was this album, covering songs from the second movie in a similar quality to what I remember. I can't find any evidence it was ever released as a physical CD, and all sites point to this as the only album released by "Future Hit Makers, ltd."

2023.06.03 16:18 Makkrohero Anyone else getting exposed for being a lot worse than you thought?

As title says. After they improved the matchmaking, I'm actually exposing myself to be a lot worse than I previously thought. I have lingered around the mid to lower champion division for a long time now, but many of those points came from lower rated players. (I do of course beat champion ranked players as well)
I've played a bit of weekend league (or whatever it's called now), and so far I have lost every single duel. And my rating is rapidly plummeting. I Usually get those gold trophies each weekend league.
But it's important to know that I'm NOT saying this because I'm angry or complaining. Quite frankly, I think it's a good thing. Now I'm actually finding my real level. My guess is that I will linger around high master - low champion for a while. And I can't just farm points from people a lot lower than me.
Again, I'm not at all being angry. I just wonder if anyone else also has gotten "worse" when they improved the matchmaking?

2023.06.03 16:17 Illwood_ Humans Make The Best Mech Pilots?! (Part 2/?)

“Three years to build a mech with specs that only a year ago I would have called impossible within this century? Would you like any other miracles while I’m preying to every deity I know of?” – [CLASSIFIED] Head of [CLASSIFIED] development, after being presented with the project’s requirements.
----
First, Previous, Next.
----
‘Diagnostics complete. Error zero-zero, reactor output is nil. No other errors detected. Unit 0012 is unable to perform upcoming operation. I am sorry Sustain. You will be scratched from the roster.’
Anna ‘Sustain’ Finand started swearing, first in United Earth common, then English and lastly in Arabic. Fortunately for her career and general standing among her peers, her mech’s cockpit was still sealed tight, preventing the small army of engineers and maintenance personal swarming her mech from hearing.
She swore about the ridiculousness of a reactor design that could fail with no discernible reason at the drop of a hat. She cursed about the mountain of corners which had been piled up at the feet of the killing machine that refused to power on. Lastly, she just screamed as three years of built-up frustration poured out of her lanky body.
Sustain had been a mech pilot for far longer than she cared to admit, having began by piloting her Dad’s farming mech during planting season. She would start her shift in the mech-tractor after schooled finished, and work until midnight while her Dad slept. Then she would catch some much-needed rest, only to wake up early the next morning for school and do it all over again. She never resented her Dad for the strain the season would place on the two of them, but curiously she had always found herself angry at her mother; who had left when she was only five.
When she had signed up for the military, she had told the interviewing officer that she could pilot a mech in her sleep. She hadn’t been bragging. They’d thrown her into a simulator to see what she could do, and when she told her father that she’d barely passed the exam, she’d been lying. She hadn’t wanted him to worry about the possibility of her being hand picked for the special forces, which is exactly what had happened a few months later. Sustain remembered the fight between herself and her father after that, it had been legendary, and was still something they joked about to this very day.
Still, Sustain was as stubborn as her dad, and when her special forces service had paid for his space flight to and apartment on Earth he’d admitted that he was glad to have lost that fight. Thinking about her father, and Earth, only intensified the extreme frustration Sustain was currently experiencing.
The Algeen’s had pulled in as many species as they possibly could to fight off the Tide, but they hadn’t seen fit to give humanity the same offer. It was only five years ago that humanity had learnt about the existence of the Tide, as the inter-galactic wall that had been the Algeen republic, exhausted beyond all measures, crumbled away.
It still pissed her off to think about. Had the Algeen’s included humanity and it’s six hundred worlds at the start of the war, hell even halfway through it, they would have been able to fight with the numerical advantage. But instead, the Algeen’s had kept the Tide and their war from them a secret. No one knew why but Sustain could sure as hell guess: In the past Humanity and the Algeen’s had their fair share of conflicts.
No doubt the Algeen’s had wanted to present a facade of strength, out of fear that humanity would seek to capitalise on their weakened state.
Sustain could easily see humanity negotiating favourable terms for their aid, terms which may very well have seen them rise as the dominate power in the galactic region. Much like America in comparison to England after WWII. However, by seeking to prevent this from happening, the Algeen’s may have doomed humanity in the process.
Once they knew of their existence Humanity had tried to open diplomatic talks with the Tide and had been violently rebuked. With the Algeen’s crashing down before their very eyes humanity’s leadership had realised with horror that they now had to fight a considerably more powerful enemy, and only had five years to prepare for it.
Three years ago, that same leadership had finally convinced the Algeen’s to share their technology with their new allies of circumstance, and the flood gates had poured open. That’s when Sustain had gotten involved in the cluster fuck.
Humanity knew from their past that their technology was a few years behind that of the Algeen’s. However, they also knew that their tactics and general understanding of warfare was significantly greater. But now they had to compete with the Tide, who’s technology surpassed even that of the Algeen’s, and half measures weren’t going to cut it. Humanity had set out to build a brand new mech, one which could match the Tide machines (even if it wouldn’t beat them) by combining human and Algeen technology.
Sustain had signed on as a test pilot for the project, one of a thousand such pilots. Calling them the best of the best was considered an insult to many of the test pilots. While Sustain didn’t agree with such an arrogant attitude she wasn’t so humble as to be unable to admit the truth: They weren’t the best. Or the best of the best. They were one thousand out of a billion such pilots. They were Elite in the truest meaning of the word.
But none of that would mean anything if they didn’t have any machines to pilot.
Having taken a moment to calm herself, Sustain popped the seals on her cockpit, and opened the heavy door to the clammer of voices and machinery that was the drop hanger of the Swan. The Swan was a orbital insertion carrier, designed to launch its cargo onto a planet without succumbing to gravity or weapons fire alongside them. In just two short hours they would be deploying onto Algeen Prime, one battle which made up the many overseen by operation “Sucker Punch”.
For humanity to survive it needed to push the Tide back as quickly as possible while they were still dealing with the many losses, they had suffered during the Algeen war. For humanity to survive it needed to bloody the nose of those who dared to threaten the continued existence of mankind, and countless others. What better place to do that then where the most noses were located?
Algeen Prime and its surrounding systems were swarming with Tide ships and mechs, as their long conflicted was slowly ground to a pulp. Human intelligence suggested that the Tide in these locations would be running low on supplies, manpower and equipment. It was into this exhausted army that operation sucker punch would strike. It was up to Sustain and the Algeen-Human experimental mech program to be the tip of that spear. No pressure.
Sustain’s maintenance chief cut through both the volume of the hanger and her anxious recount of the events leading up to this situation.
“Sorry Captain, this one’s given up the ghost. I don’t know what is so cursed about this reactor design but when I find whoever made the mistake that causes this headache, I’ll throw the unlucky sod your way eh?”
Despite the situation the Chief’s gruff voice and jokes were enough to force the ghost of a smile onto Sustain’s face. The old, balding man reminded her of a friend of her fathers. The one who’d help occasionally with odd maintenance jobs around the house that her father was too busy to attend to. Only instead of repainting the living room he was fine tuning the most advanced fighting machine currently known to mankind. An odd idiosyncrasy to be sure, but like her the Chief was Elite.
“You’d deprive yourself of that satisfying revenge for me Tomlinson?” Sustain replied.
“Well better you go to prison then me, and I trust you to really twist the knife while you gut the fella.”
“Ah, fair.”
An awkward silence stretched between the two of them. A deep dark abyss that neither really wanted to descend into. Sustain took the plunge first.
“How many others like mine?”
Tomlinson’s eyes said all she needed to know. But he spoke anyway.
“About half of em. We’re hoping to get that down to a quarter but the timing ain’t looking so great. I hope you don’t mind me saying I’m glad yours isn’t showing any signs of life, if we got her started now we’d have to skip so many safety procedures to be ready in time that it ain’t funny… Well, it’d be a little funny. But only if you didn’t explode.”
Sustain grimaced. The constant issue with the experimental mechs was their power source. Everything else had been shaped up over the frantic past three years, but the reactors were a hurtle that seemingly couldn’t be overcome. Once they were running, they were fine. In fact, they were better than fine. Once running the reactors were a considerable improvement to their Algeen basis. It was getting them started that was the hard part.
Three years of Elite scientists and engineers working on the problem, and still it was a crapshoot as to whether the reactors would startup properly or destroy itself in doing so. This problem was exacerbated by the fact that the reactors were only designed to be run for a month before needing to be powered down for a maintenance once over.
Sustain’s mech had its maintenance once over a week ago. She would have preferred delaying the operation to ensure that all the one thousand Elite had operational machines, but replacing the reactor in the experimental mechs took weeks to do. Apparently command just didn’t have that kind of time.
Sustain spook to Tomlinson again.
“Alright, well good effort team. Looks like the training machine’s up.”
The training machines were highly customised but otherwise unmodified Algeen machines. With the experimental one’s being so finicky the Elite had needed reliable machines to hone their skills in. The trainers had never been intended to be taken into battle, however the situation left little room for anything else. They were capable machines, and the Elite pilots were very familiar with them. Tomlinson helped her down with an odd look on his face. After a moment Sustain realised: it was a potent mix of apprehension and guilt.
“I-I” The usually steadfast chief choked on his words. Pausing to take a deep breath before continuing. “I’m sorry it had to be this way ma’am. I didn’t want to let you down.”
Sustain was surprised by the words, but a cocky smile soon found it’s way to her face.
“Don’t worry Chief, I like a challenge. I thought you would have known that about me by now.” She said with a wink.
That same smile danced on her face once more, as two hours and one Tide mech later she was on the battlefield in her trainer mech. The taste of victory like Ambrose in her mouth. The ranged heavy Tide mech was fighting its salvo at her, but rather then attempted to doge the incoming missile or deploy her energy shield, Sustain kept her mech perfectly still. Closing her eyes and increasing the rating on her neural lace; merging her mind closer and closer to the heart of the machine.
When she opened them again everything was slowed to a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a second. She concentrated on the first missile, its trajectory appearing on her HUD, and lined up a trajectory of her own. The spikes the Algeen had noted on her mechs shoulders were indeed grenade launchers – not designed for offensive operation and most certainly not designed to be used as anti-missile fire. But Sustain had been training against the Elite for over three years now, most of them in this very machine, together they had all learnt more then a few tricks.
With the overclocking ability of her neural lace, (a development that neither the Algeen’s nor the Tide had access to), Sustain was able to launch the smoke canisters with unnerving accuracy directly into the path of the oncoming Tide fire. To Churk, who was watching the fight take place in real time, it appeared as though every canister had fired at the same moment. But to Sustain each and every canister had been individually targeted and fired.
The massive shockwave of so many missile denotating at once pounded into the surrounding area, causing the ground to shake, trees to shiver and Churk and his team to grab their helmets and take cover. One moment Sustain’s Algeen mech had been charging across the grassy field towards the Tide heavy, the next the entire field and some of the forest the Tide heavy was taking cover in was filled with smoke.
At first both Churk and the Tide pilot believed the smoke to be coming from the destroyed carcass of Sustain’s mech. Both were equally surprised then when with the quick flash of a blade the smoke, (and the Tide’s missile launcher,) were spilt in two.
The smoke in question was electro chemical in nature and caused odd pixelation and glitches to flare up in Sustain’s mechs sensors, as the scrambling effects of the smoke began to hit full force. Of course, Sustain’s mech was programmed with these effects in mind, and so was shielded from the worse of the interference. The same cannot be said for the Tide mech, who’s pilot now had to battle one insanely capable human and their own systems in order to survive. It was a battle that the mech pilot would not be able to win, however that doesn’t mean they were going to go down without a fight.
The Tide mech swung the ruined launcher at Sustain’s mech, and she used her left shoulder to block the blow, causing the frame of her machine to shake with the force of the heavy blow. In return she struck with her sword, finding the elbow joint on the Tide machine’s left arm, and slicing for everything her mech was worth. Her sword ran up the length of the Tide mech’s arm, under the heavy armour, and into the shoulder joint, whereupon (with a flick of her wrist) Sustain was able to deprive the Tide mech of its entire arm.
The Tide mech swung again with the now very pulped launcher, Sustain ducked the blow and thrust forward with her blade, intending to skewer the Tide machine on her sword. She was partially successful in doing so, creating a large and jagged rent in the chest armour of her enemy. The enemy (who was not unskilled) twisted away, preventing Sustain from penetrating the top-quality armour and causing her mech to overbalance. Instead of stepping forward to overt her fall Sustain sent her mech’s anti-gravity pods into overdrive and activated her jump jets. The mech rolled forward smoothly, in a movement that would have shredded a machine of its size and weight if not for the advanced technology of the pods.
As Sustain rolled free from her opponent’s follow up strike (an overhead blow that would have caught her on the back of her machine) smashed into empty air and then dirt. Not letting the sudden evasion get the better of them however, the Tide pilot dropped the useless and crushed launcher remains and pulled their mech’s coil gun from its thigh holster. The coil gun looked like a pistol in the mechs hand, but was powerful enough at this range to punch directly through the chest of Sustain’s mech.
The Tide pilot never got the chance to fire it.
Sustain bounced back from her roll with a speed that, even with the gravity pods maxed out, sent creaks throughout her entire machine. Her jump jets were still firing, and she leapt towards the Tide mech as it pulled its coil gun from its holster. Facing a weapon, she could not deflect with smoke grenades or armour, her only defence was speed and accuracy.
Like a shark about to earn a round of drinks by throwing their last dart, Sustain hit the bullseye at the last possible second. The Tide machine’s armour, already comprised by her previous pass, finally failed as the full weight of Sustain’s mech was forcefully shoved against it. The force concentrated through the point of her brutally simple sword and sliced deep into vulnerable inners of the machine to hit the only thing that truly matter onboard a mech: The pilot.

2023.06.03 16:16 Aggressive-Dust-6694 Cameras Recommendation (Under $100)

I’m fresh out of High School and summer is starting. I wanted to get a digital camera that i can take pictures of for memories and such from here on out. I don’t need anything too high quality but I’d prefer something under 100 that I can use one a day to day that doesn’t look super bulky or ugly. Any recommendations or advice? (I’d prefer no film cameras, if they are, I want to digitally store the pictures too ).

2023.06.03 16:16 Sunscreenboyfriend I (26M) Lost my job and no longer feel good enough for my (24F) LDR Girlfriend

As the title states a few months ago I lost my job as a Paramedic, to cut the story short I punched a fellow Paramedic who i can only describe as a N*zi due to his openly expressed views on immigrants, after a long investigation and time being told I was in the clear I discharged out of the blue with no warning,
I immediately got a new job in a pretty high role in a health company but even if she won't admit it I feel like she looks at me different since, my girlfriend is quite successful and this all happened just before she graduated law school as a Juris Doctor and she's American which is a country that highly values status, money and job security, she isn't shallow like that but from day one she's told me her future is planned out and wants heour kids to be financially secure no matter what.
I did just get my MBBS (Bathelors in Medicine and Surgery) but I'm supposed to move to the US to move in with her next year and a Bathelors is useless in the US let alone for a Visa application.
I want to stress I'm in no way intimidated by her or women being more successfully or well off, I'm so proud and impressed by her, but her family are pretty well off and I originally came from a very working class background and I doubt she wants to have a boyfriend who works retail or some shitty middle management job, like she went from proudly announcing and introducing me as her Paramedic boyfriend to everyone to seemingly not being proud of me anymore
The biggest issue is she's made it clear when she has kids she intends to be a stay at home mom for a few years to focus on raising them right and I'm terrified that I won't make enough to support her seeing as my life progression hit a wall,
I intended to propose to her, I have a ring and even set a date for it but i constantly think about the fact that since she's so successful and gorgeous she could easily bag a more successful and well off man and I'm horrified at the prospect of holding her back or hampering her life goals, and I have no idea what to do,
Should I just get ahead of the situation and leave and give her the opportunity to make her future with someone else?
There's nothing I can do educationally or employability wise in less than 6 months before were due to move in and start "our" life together and it isn't fair to expect her to halt her life and wait for me to get my shit together
(Just a note, she's never put me down for losing my jobs or ever told me she views me differently, she's a wonderful and amazing person so I don't want anyone to assume she's done wrong because she hasn't, it's just subtle things I've noticed)
TL;DR! I lost my job as a Paramedic and and I don't feel good enough for my lawyer girlfriend

2023.06.03 16:15 ddykekelly my worst experience so far

this is long sorry … so i (21f) work at this family owned italian resturant & bar that’s supposed to be like fine dining (but it’s only kind of). i started out bussing last year and in january they made me a waitress.
there are these two guys that would come in like every friday and would always stop me to talk and ask me when they’d make me waitress and when i would finally have them as a table. i would always just be polite and laugh and be like oh sometime. probably like sometime in feb the one guy told the owner when he came in that he didn’t care what job i was doing that day he wanted me to be his waitress. so whatever my boss sat him in my section & these guys were always weird but nothing like too crazy that i felt like it was going to be a problem. i’m always polite and smiling and will joke around with them back
it was kind of weird because every week they’d come in they would make jokes about me being “so innocent” and asking where i went to high school and telling me i’m so great and all this weird shit. it was kind of annoying and the innocent comments would make me uncomfortable the way they would say it since i look young.
and then this one friday in march was so bad. i was serving them like usual and only one of them ever drinks alcohol the other just has iced tea. and the guy who doesn’t drink made like a virgin joke to me?? was kind of weird but i just brushed it off and told my boss they’re so weird which he already knew. and then later on during their dinner they asked me to bring their food out instead of some random person. i laughed and said i’d do my best but… we have a food runner and i was busy with other tables so obviously i’m going to let the food runner bring your food out. and when i came to check up on them the same guy who made the virgin joke was like oh you’re in trouble if you don’t bring our food out next time you’re getting a spanking
like omg !!!! who says that i’m at work right now. i just like kind of walked away i didn’t know what to do. so i told like all of my coworkers and told my boss. he asked me if i wanted him to say anything to them and i told him yes since it made me really uncomfortable so he finished the table for me so i didn’t have to go back up to them.
but it was annoying cuz the head waiter after i told him started telling me it’s my fault that i let them speak to me like that and i should’ve said something in the moment — but i felt very awkward and probably would’ve cried if i did. but him blaming me made me start crying by the bar while i was trying to get drinks and it was so embarrassing like my coworkers seeing me. but my boss felt bad for me at least and on the guys way out he told them i would nedvee wait on them again and i was very upset about the whole thing.
and yesterday was the first time i saw them since that. was very awkward i refused to even make eye contact with themm. and the waiter who told me it was my fault said i should go up to them and say hi so i’m not letting them win … he said since it’s obvious they don’t feel guilty about it if they’re still coming in. it made me tear up cuz like that’s so uncomfortable for me and i didn’t say a word to them whole time. i hope they never come back.

2023.06.03 16:14 ThrowAway7s2 "Girls sports putting crimp on gym facilities" from the January 20, 1976 Door County Advocate

Girls sports putting crimp on gym facilities
Girls sports putting crimp on gym facilities
By JON GAST
"I kind of liken it to having a 10-person family and trying to fit them. into a two-bedroom house; you have to do things in shifts," said Sevastopol Athletic Director Eugene Waterstreet, referring to the problem of inadequate gym facilities for the growing number of sports in high school athletic programs.
It wasn't too many years ago that the problem was non-existent, but today, with the advent. of Title IX legislation, girls' programs are flourishing and because of this the number of teams in many high schools around the country have doubled. What has this meant to athletic programs?
The result is crowded gyms and shortened practices.
Possibly for the exception of Gibraltar, Door county high schools have felt the crunch to some degree and with girls' sports still not developed to their maximum, the situation could be worsening.
Probably the worst hit of the four schools is Southern Door. Athletic Director John Bowers said the school has had to do some juggling in order to accommodate the schools interscholastic sports program.
The Southern Door boys' and girls' varsity and junior varsity basketball teams get the use of the gym after school. One day the boys will practice from 3-4:30 p.m. while the girls go from 4:30 to 6 p.m. and the next day they will flip-flop. This takes up a pretty good chunk of the gym's free time considering the gym is used for numerous school and rec activities at night. So what about all the other interscholastic sports?
This is where Bowers turns into somewhat of a magician. The freshman basketball team practices the first three hours of the school day. According to Bowers, because the freshmen boys are too young to drive and must rely on parents for their transportation, it is not rational to have them practice at night or before school.
We still haven't covered wrestling or girls' gymnastics.
After all the meals are prepared and the mess cleaned up, the wrestlers roll out their mats in the cafeteria for their afternoon workouts. And. the girl gymnasts, contrary to popular opinion, don't get the library, they get the hallways.
That's right, they set up their equipment in the hallways in the afternoons.
An added problem for Bowers is the fact that there is no transportation for the group of basketball players practicing from 4:30-6 because the last bus leaves the school at 5:15.
"I think we have a little more of a problem out here," said Bowers, "because we are out in the country we have that problem with transportation."
Two things have helped ease the problem at Sturgeon Bay. First, the junior and senior high schools are separate, thereby relieving the problem caused by freshman sports. The second advantage that the Clippers own is in the layout of the high school. Sturgeon Bay has a balcony adjacent to the gym that allows for an area where wrestling practice can be conducted. It also has the added advantage of not having a girls' gymnastics program and in these times of added stress on facilities one less sport can make a lot of difference.
"So far we've been able to work things out," said Athletic Director Ron Casadont. "It's not the best system in the world, but at least everyone has time to work out."
As far as use of the gym is concerned, basketball uses up most of that time as it does at most schools; like at Southern Door, the Clippers boys and girls must share their time. One group goes from 2:30-5 while the other must come from 5-6:30.
"As more teams come in we'll have more problems," said Casadont. "But most of the coaches realize that we had better go on cooperating."
At Sevastopol, the Pioneers are engaged in the two-gym suffle. Wrestling, boys' basketball and girls' basketball are cooperating in sharing the elementary and high school gyms.
At present, Athletic Director Eugene Waterstreet is trying to keep things organized with a monthly schedule that directs each sport, when and where it is to practice.
"We haven't had any great problems," said Waterstreet. He has the junior high practicing from 2:15 to 3:05 each day with the high school teams taking over after school and at night. Because then are three teams for two gyms, one team often has to come back at night to practice. But as at the other schools, variables are involved, like interscholastic games at night or Rec League or a grade school game, all adding up to one big headache for Waterstreet.
One added problem that Waterstreet has is a Wednesday night ordinance that states that there will be no school activities after supper. This means one team is without practice time, but Waterstreet said that he has gotten around this with the cooperation of the girls' basketball team which has agreed not to practice on Wednesday nights.
The crowded conditions have forced many of the teams to move their practices to Saturday and there have been some on Sunday also.
A good example of a team feeling the crunch is the Sevastopol freshman team. The squad is scheduled with the varsity and junior varsity teams. But the priority that is given to the varsity and junior varsity often leaves the freshmen out in the cold, forcing them to search for spots of time when the gym is available. This means an inconvenience for parents who
must cart their boys to school at night or on a Saturday so the team can get in a decent practice.
Due to a decision by the Gibraltar school board, dropping athletics in the junior high, the Vikings. enjoy an escape from the "crowd." Add to this the fact that Gibraltar has no wrestling team and you have virtually no problem. The school has no problem in getting in both the boys' and girls' practices after school and still has plenty of time left over for intramurals.
"Our dropping the junior high program helped spacewise," said Principal Larry Lundell. "I don't know how it will eventually effect the team, though."
How does all this affect the performance of the athlete?
"I don't think it has that much effect on the athletes," said Bowers. "The kids go out because they enjoy the sport." As girls' sports grow so will the problems, "but, as Casadont said, the coaches will have to realize that for the sake of the survival of their own sport they will have to compromise on time. But, he said, as far as Sturgeon Bay is
concerned, the winter sports may not be the problem area. He feels that when the spring sports roll around the situation nay worsen for awhile as boys' track, girls' track, baseball and eventually girls' softball all must share the gym for a month or so while waiting for the thaw to arrive.
The more you think about it, 10 people in a two-bedroom house sounds kind of roomy.

2023.06.03 16:14 clcliff Anyone else have a dramatic cohort?

I have a larger cohort (45 students) and it seems like there's always some kind of drama or gossip going on. Everyone's gotten into their own little cliques and it seems that someone's always being excluded or talking about someone else. We even have this one student in my research group who's been lying about us to our research mentor and telling her we're doing all these horrible things when none of it ever happened. Now that same girl just volunteered to be our class representative to go to faculty meetings. Kinda feels like high school all over again.

2023.06.03 16:14 DiscordDucky Is anyone going to the Capitol on June 8th?

I am wondering how many SEIU Local 1000 members will show up for the march on June 8th. Seems like a good idea to get out there and show the governor that we are standing behind our union's demands.
I spoke to a Union Rep and she said we are able to strike under certain conditions and after the contract expires. For more information on striking, you can join our Strike School on June 10th. https://www.seiu1000.org/event/strike-school-event. We need to show the state that we are willing to fight for a good contract and that nothing less is unacceptable. Sacramento Governor’s Mansion rally June 8th from 10 am - 1 pm. We will be meeting at the Capitol Rose Garden, 1317 15th St, Sacramento, at 10 am. We will march to the Governor's Mansion and have a rally on the corner of H St. & 16th St. Also, you can share your story about how low wages and high vacancies have impacted you here: https://secure.everyaction.com/Mrcclvs3206wL2Lv_7I-sg2#!
The Bargaining Team has still not heard back from the State on our economic proposals which is very frustrating for many of us! With the Governor talking about a budget deficit, we know that means it won't be easy to ensure we are a budget priority. More than ever, we need every single state employee to participate if we want to win a strong contract with the raises we deserve. Hundreds of members across CA are coming together on June 8th to rally in Sacramento to demand the raises we need to support our families. Can you join us?

2023.06.03 16:14 Sunscreenboyfriend I (26M) lost my job as a Paramedic and feel like I'm no longer good enough for my (26F) Girlfriend

2023.06.03 16:12 Rosiekat47 Genuinely so confused..

Can someone please help me understand Dae’s school situation?
First episode he can’t afford the payment and he’s going to be kicked out. Generic story line progresses to fake rich girlfriend paying for it.
But I must have missed something because where tf did Dae’s super-strict-has-to-be-first-in-class-or-else-loses-all-school-funding-scholarship come from?? If he had a scholarship that pays for everything if he’s the top of the class and until Florian cheats he IS top of the class then why is he freaking out about money in the first episode?
Also these are high schoolers. Like yeah maybe his dad made Dae personally pay for school but that’d be hard to believe considering we’d see Dae busting his ass at some job he’s had for years to support himself. But like what, did his dad just forget about paying for school? School is about to start and no one has made a school payment so like what.. I know Dae’s dad is busy working but like wouldn’t he at the VERY least be like “okay Dae I’m sorry you have to go to public school because we cannot make this payment”
The only entertaining part of this show was the beautiful Korean town and how FUCKING NUTS it is………………………..

2023.06.03 16:12 iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii20 Anyone who says they got good grades in high school and then failed out of college is not, and never was, "gifted".

I don't care what your parents, that IQ test you took online when you were 16, or your overworked school psychologist told you. High school is supposed to be easy. Even back in the 90s when I attended high school, the sentiment was "getting good grades in high school is easy, but in college you actually have to prove you understand the material to earn good grades." I can only imagine how much more watered down high school is for kids since 2000, especially in the wake of NCLB. In short, you got perfect scores in all your classes in high school because you were good at memorizing and regurgitating, that's all. Congrats! You were a human SSD. But still not gifted.
Also, I'm tired of hearing "I was gifted as a child. My parents would teach me things and I would 'get it' right away, and remember it perfectly!" That's just called being a normal kid. Kids' brains are like supercomputers that absorb and retain massive amounts of knowledge. Your peers who seemed "slower" than you probably just had parents who didn't teach them anything.
As a counter-example, the only truly gifted person I ever knew was presenting original research he published in his field to M.D.'s at a conference in Europe while he was still attending medical school in America.

2023.06.03 16:12 guessilldoit7 Failed WGU classes 2 years ago, possibility of readmission?

In case this is too long or messy, when I was 17 (now 19), I failed three classes due to an unfortunate situation in my life. It has been 2 years and I have gotten a lot better and want to go back to college for physics education. Does WGU have a program or system for students who failed and dropped out previously? Thank you for any help and advice!

When I was 17, I had just finished junior year of high school and graduated. I was researching colleges, asked about WGU, and ended up enrolling the next month because the advisor was honestly pretty convincing and I was pumped up. I had nearly all A’s in high school and I mostly self-studied, so I thought I was ready.
I was doing really well at first. I had finished two classes in the first month and had begun the next few by the end of that month. Then, a bunch of unfortunate situations happened in my personal life and I ended up not finishing three of my classes, I’m 19 now and doing a lot better. I’m thinking about going back to college by the spring to become a physics teacher.
I was wondering if, since I failed three classes, would I be able to enroll in WGU again? Does WGU have a system or program for students who failed and dropped out? I am going to email WGU later today, but I was wondering about others who may have had a similar situation.
Thank you for any and all help. Have a good day and stay safe!

2023.06.03 16:12 ParadoxIrony Does no one enjoy the game for the game anymore?

I have always played league solo and usually ranked, it’s been so long since I even touched norms outside of one or two stray games with friends every month. This past weekend I went out to drinks with some friends and I learned that they play league. We queued up for norms the last 3-4 days or so for about 10-15 games, playing random troll and fun stuff. Every single game our other two teammates were just permanently being extremely angry about something and the enemy team was constantly typing about “look at these high elo players abusing Smurfs to feel good about themselves cause they can’t win in their ranks.” Keep in mind all of us were off role playing things like Zilean jg and millio top. It feels like no one queues up to enjoy the game, no matter what mode. People load up due to being addicted and then feel the same way about the game, win or lose.

2023.06.03 16:12 narc_mom2021 He’s mad he has to drop the baby off and not just go party

I really just need to vent because I’m sick I’ve had the stomach bug since yesterday have felt really crummy ontop of being stressed out with exams
I have these massive exams coming up in 9 days. My mom is helping out with our oldest daughter and my youngest is usually with the sitters so I can study. A few weeks ago he came to me letting me know a guy he went to high school with had passed and some guys from his graduating class were organizing an informal reunion of sorts. He asked if he could go and I said that would be based on whether I could arrange a sitter because of how close it was to my exams. Earlier this week he asked again and I said sure I’d arranged with her sitter to take her he just would have to get her to the sitter (he sent our car to the mechanic). He said he’d make arrangements.
Yesterday he asked about her getting to the sitter I said I’d assumed the person who was giving him a lift to the reunion would give him a lift to drop her off. (I thought this was the arrangement he would have made when he said he’d make arrangements). He said he’d asked meaning he’d never made any arrangements assumed I wouldn’t and never bothered to tell me a thing. At 11pm he says his friend who’s taking him to the reunion wants him to meet him at 7am and that’s too early to drop off our daughter. Not to mention I’ve had the stomach bug since yesterday I can’t move more than 3 feet from the bathroom.
We are also under a weather alert due to a tropical storm and this reunion party is at a river.
Anyway this morning I woke him having to do a 10ft sprint to the bathroom and he’s irritable cause the babies crying. He dillydallies around the house before eventually deciding to leave about 15 minutes ago. Right before he leaves I had to shove the baby at him in a mad dash to the restroom. While I’m trying not to die on the toilet he’s asking me something that I don’t quite hear. When I asked him to repeat what he said he’s irritable then says he thought my sister would come for her because he doesn’t want to take a taxi with 2 bags and the baby.
To make this entire situation worse he waited so long to leave home a thunderstorm started about 10 minutes after he left. I called to see if they’d managed to get a taxi before it came down he’s mad and says no they are both soaking wet as if the rain is somehow my fault. Now I can’t even call back because I’m pretty sure I’ll get cussed out. I can’t go out looking for them because I’ll add nothing to the situation not to mention I’d probably need to use the bathroom before I got out the front door

2023.06.03 16:08 Vast_Bowl7417 Let's share some cute love marriage stories in our family/relatives

I'll start first. My grandparents had love marriage. So, both of them attended a marriage function and saw each other there. They were from 2 neighboring villages.
My grandma gossiped to her friends about how she liked a boy in the ceremony and somehow it reached grandpa through some friends. So Grandpa gathered some information about her and met her at kali puja fair. Both of them started meeting each other on the way to college where grandma studied. Grandpa got a job as a high school teacher in govt school so parents of grandpa were looking for a rishta for him at that time. Grandpa was scared so he told one his uncle that he liked a girl. That uncle was close to him and sneakily he brought the proposal to grandpa's dad, so no one doubted. Next grandpa's family sent grandma's family a proposal and during that time highschool teachers had good respect in the society, specially if it was a permanent govt job. So they were happy and told them to come and see grandma once.
Grandma didn't knew who sent the proposal, grandpa too as his uncle didn't tell him. They met and cried together lol and planned to run away. Next day grandpa and his family visited grandma's house and both of them were shocked. After that everything went smooth, and they celebrated their 40th Marriage Anniversary few days back. Damn they love each other so so much that they refuse to come to our house or visit somewhere if both of them are not coming together. I find them so cute.
Grandpa told them their story and I found it impressive because at that time men and women weren't allowed to talk to each other if they were not related. They had the freaking courage to meet secretly when both of them belonged from conservative family. He said if they were not arranged, they would have definitely ran away from home haha
SHare the ones from your family or relatives
