2023.05.29 19:01 Able_Possession8736 A Comprehensive Guide to Pro Football Video Game Covers

Another Madden $70 re-skin is upon us, so let's take a moment to explore the history of all the people who have been featured on the cover of an pro football video game.
While the selection of the Madden cover athlete is now an event, there was a wild wild west period of football games from the 80s to the mid-2000s where anybody with a computer could and would build football games, with the selection of the cover being all over the place. Roger Craig was the first cover athlete in 1985 on NFL Challenge for MS-DOS. Madden's first game was in 1988, then by the mid-90s getting a cover athlete or spokesman for your football game was pretty standard.
I wanted to compile those games and covers based on this Wiki article (and a few that it was missing from that list) and see who was on the main cover of all of those games (some games were almost completely irrelevant, so I left them off this list). Some of these may have more alternates with other people, but I'll stick with the main cover.

Covers by Position

*These are heavily boosted by John Madden being on 10 Madden covers
Obviously QBs dominate here, but I didn't realize how little defensive players have been on football game covers (9%), with none being on a cover since Richard Sherman in 2014. I'd love to see more defensive players on the Madden cover. Who would be the most likely defensive guy in the near future? Aaron Donald, TJ Watt, Nick Bosa, Myles Garrett, or Sauce Gardner?

Covers by Team

https://preview.redd.it/8f29df4ygl2b1.png?width=600&format=png&auto=webp&v=enabled&s=3b93f8a4ddb26b2cee1f6abd74652f44b7fbfdcb
If a team's player was not a lead on the cover or was not any identifiable player, I gave them a *
The Re-skins/Commanders?, Jags, Panthers, and Bills have appeared on a cover but never with an athlete as the lead or with a real person. Only the Texans have never appeared at all on the cover of any football video game. I'd say the Bills are most likely to get one next (Josh Allen), then the Jags (Trevor Lawrence), then the Panthers/Texans if either hits a home run with Young or Stroud. The Commanders have a long road ahead to getting a feature cover athlete, unless you ask Sam Howell who thinks he should be this year's Madden cover athlete.

Most Prolific Cover People

Kordell Stewart, Daunte Culpepper, and Donovan McNabb (and possibly Lamar Jackson, still too early for him) are the only players with multiple appearances that are either not or are unlikely to make the Hall of Fame. McNabb is the only guy to appear in multiple covers in the same year. Also of note, 7 athletes were on a cover without ever making a pro bowl in their careers: Brad Muster, Pat Terrell, Gordon Laro, Chris Zorich, Albert Fontenot, William Floyd, and Peyton Hillis (Hillis was the only one to be the primary cover athlete).
I'll list all the games and their respective covers by their era below. I'll also attach some of my favorite covers from each era. If the cover person was a Hall of Famer, I'll mark them with a \). If they're very likely to make the HoF but they're not yet eligible, I'll mark them with a +

We didn't see the first cover athlete until 1985 with Roger Craig. They didn't really become standard until the early to mid-90s after Madden became a big selling point for the early Madden games. The dip in the last 2 decades is because there's just less games, so any generic football games will have a large effect.

The Early Days: 1965-1982

1978: Football! for the Magnavox Odyssey 2 was the first football video game with a cover, but obviously the cover athletes are generic.

The 2D Era: 1983-1996

1985: NFL Challenge was the first football game with a real cover athlete (Roger Craig). This was the original bar for realism in football simulation, to where it was used in a 1988 ESPN Program \"NFL Dream Season\" where they simulated the greatest teams of all time against each other.
1988: John Madden Football released on the Apple II, MS-DOS, and Commodore 64/128 (partly being developed by Bethesda), which was the beginning of the most dominant franchise in football video games. They featured no NFL teams due to a lack of an NFL license.
1991: Tecmo Super Bowl is probably still my personal favorite football video game. It's totally timeless, and if you pick the Raiders then you're a cheater.

The Parity Era: 1997-2004

1997: NFL Blitz came from Midway studios and was a breath of fresh air for football games. They had mostly been stagnant trying to hone in on realistic simulation in 2D form, whereas Blitz came out in 3D and threw realism out the window. I definitely spent too much money on the arcade version of this game.
2000: Madden 2001 started the tradition of having their games feature a cover athlete in this format, which consolidated into nearly everyone following this trend.
2001: Backyard Football 2002 was a more kid-friendly version of a football video game, and they also had other games for other professional sports. I definitely played this a lot on my old Windows Me computer, and Pablo Sanchez is a god.
2002: NFL Fever was Microsoft's foray into football video games on the original Xbox. All 3 of their games featured Peyton Manning as the cover athlete.
2002: NFL GameDay 2003 was 989 Sports' exclusive for Sony on the PlayStation platform.
2004: ESPN NFL 2K5 was the last great football game before the NFL exclusively gave their license to the EA. It was this game that definitely led to NFL's decision though, as they slashed their release price to an unheard of $20, which forced Madden 2004 to release at $30 instead of the typical $50. This pissed off the NFL, who decided to have less competition instead.

The Madden Era: 2005-Present

2005: NFL Street 2 was the second in the NFL Street series as a kind of spiritual successor to NFL Blitz. EA tried to have some diversity in their football video games outside of the Madden franchise, so they had the short-lived Street franchise under \"EA BIG\"
2006: NFL Head Coach was a new perspective on NFL Games where you play as the coach instead of the players. I enjoyed these although they could get a little boring.
2007: All Pro Football 2K8 was 2K's attempt at keeping the 2K football franchise alive without the coveted NFL license. They got three HoF players on the cover in Elway, Barry, and Rice, but not the actual license to any NFL team. This game received praise for its mechanics, but poor sales showed that a non-NFL licensed game would always struggle to make it.
2011: Madden 12 was maybe the last good Madden game. Also, Peyton Hillis. The only guy on a NFL football game cover to never make a Pro Bowl. This guy is an actual hero though, so good for him.
2019: Doug Flutie's Maximum Football was a mix of american and CFL football as another attempt at making a football game without the NFL license to poor results. They have announced a new game as a free to play title on new platforms, but no games in this franchise have released since 2020.
2020: Retro Bowl is a mobile game more in the style of Tecmo Super Bowl than Madden. It's probably the most successful non-Madden game since ESPN NFL 2K5, and it's pretty fun. People should definitely give this one a try since it's free to play on any mobile platform.
2022: Madden 23 gave the cover back to Madden for the first time since 1999 to honor the passing of the legend John Madden. Unfortunately the game inside the cover was crap, has been the style of Madden games for over a decade.

2023 Mazda CX-30 Review: Above-and-beyond the mainstream choices
Mazda's midcompact crossover aims high and hits the mark

https://preview.redd.it/qbto2p7rmq1b1.png?width=1062&format=png&auto=webp&s=d4fbc6b2cfab8968ba1c1eb4be4daaf88fa30806
Pros: Fun to drive; wonderful interior; standard all-wheel drive; class-leading turbo power
Cons: Average fuel economy from base engine; expensive relative to mainstream competitors; smartphone integration is only so-so
Mazda’s ongoing push to be an upscale brand is perhaps best exemplified by one of its least-expensive models. The 2023 CX-30 goes above and beyond the typical mainstream midcompact with a segment-busting turbocharged engine, standard all-wheel drive and an interior that belongs in a class above most of Mazda’s traditional competitors.

As impressive as it may be in that context, Mazda’s advantages come at a price — literally. It’s expensive for the segment and a bit shy when it comes to passenger and cargo space; a Kia Seltos or VW Taos would serve you better in that regard. And although it’s based on the traditionally athletic and nimble Mazda3, its AWD and taller profile add mass higher than where you’d ideally want it. Gone are the days of Mazda chasing lap times with its turbocharged Mazdaspeed models, but the CX-30 is nonetheless an excellent driving companion with near-luxury bona fides to boot.

What's new for 2023?
In short, not much. The standard 2.5-liter engine was massaged slightly, freeing up an additional 5 horsepower and simultaneously improving fuel economy, albeit slightly. Mazda also made some updates to the CX-30’s safety systems and crash structure that should improve performance for rear passengers. The only bad news is that Mazda quietly discontinued the base turbo trim, so you’ll have to spend a bit more to get that extra power for 2023.

What are the CX-30 interior and in-car technology like?
Like the Mazda3 with which it shares so much, the CX-30's cabin makes you go "wow" considering its price and the vehicles with which it competes. Whatever trim level you're considering, the key to this wow factor is how Mazda's current interior design scheme removes visual clutter by reducing switchgear and effectively hiding air vents and door handles. Lower trim levels are sadly no longer available with two-tone color treatments (we suppose most people just want plain-old black), but upper trims can still get white or black leather accented with reddish brown simulated leather trim. No matter the trim level, though, for a car in the $20,000-$35,000 range, CX-30 interior looks and feels special.

It's also of a high quality and quite functional. The steering wheel, which looks sensational, is an absolute treat to hold and has intelligently designed buttons/switches for the infotainment and cruise controls. There's considerable center console space, including a configurable under-armrest bin, and a decently sized forward bin for a smartphone.

Mazda's tech interface is a bit love-it-or-hate-it. The dashtop screen is large and easy to see. The knob that controls it is large, not unlike BMW's iDrive, and ergonomically placed on the center console. It's not a touchscreen, though, as Mazda engineers determined that hunting for touch-operating icons can be distracting. They're not wrong, and the higher-mounted screen is certainly easier to read at a glance. That said, there are a lot of people who don't not care for this setup and specifically prefer a touchscreen like the ones offered in all the Mazda's competitors. Specifically, the lack of a touchscreen can make it harder to select icons in Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which were designed to be controlled by touch. There's a reason the Mazda CX-50 now allows touch operation when using CarPlay and Android Auto, but that advancement unfortunately hasn't made it to the CX-30 yet.

How big is the CX-30?
Although it was originally an unusual size, the CX-30 now finds itself among a growing number of midcompact SUVs that slot in between subcompacts like the Hyundai Kona and compacts like Mazda's own CX-5. Others include the Ford Bronco Sport, Kia Seltos, and Volkswagen Taos. In terms of space, the CX-30 is the smallest of that group and is definitely the least family-friendly. Two tall passengers will be able to sit front-to-back on the passenger side, but not on the driver side. Fitting a rear-facing child seat in the middle will be a squeeze.

Cargo space with the rear seat raised is 20.2 cubic feet, which is only a bit better than subcompact models and considerably less than the midcompacts mentioned above. That number is virtually identical to the Mazda3 hatchback, but in our testing, we found the CX-30's extra height allowed it to swallow an additional suitcase (surprisingly, the Mazda3 sedan can carry more than them both). Although its suitcase count trailed its midcompact competitors, it was superior to a pair of small luxury models, the BMW X2 and Audi Q3. We could also fit a golf bag diagonally across the cargo area.

What are the CX-30 fuel economy and performance specs?
For 2023, every CX-30 comes with all-wheel drive, plus a six-speed automatic. There are then two choices of engine. Cars dubbed CX-30 2.5 S have a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter inline-four that produces 191 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque. That's more than the base engines of most competitors, plus some of their engine upgrades. It now returns 26 miles per gallon city, 33 mpg highway and 29 mpg combined. Those figures remain low compared to other base engines, but again, the competition generally has less power.

As for the CX-30's upgrade engine, nothing in the segment can touch it. The turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-four produces 227 hp and 310 lb-ft on regular gas. It'll do 250 hp and 320 lb-ft if you feel like filling it with 93 octane. Fuel economy is basically the same as the base engine at 22/30/25 mpg.

What's the CX-30 like to drive?
If you want to feel what a car is doing through the steering wheel, throttle pedal and through the seat of your pants, the Mazda CX-30 is exactly the type of small crossover you're looking for. Its taller stature means it loses some of the agility provided by the lower Mazda3, but the primary control efforts and feedback are just as exceptional. When it comes to providing an engaging driving experience, no SUV comes remotely close in the CX-30's price range. There's even a case to be made that it provides more driving fun than a BMW X2.

Along those lines, the available turbo engine is there to make the CX-30 feel luxurious and effortless, rather than burn rubber and set lap times like some turbocharged Mazdaspeed of old. On paper and in practice, none of its non-luxury competitors can touch it in a straight line – it obviously costs more, but it's the engine we'd certainly want.

Nevertheless, the base engine is still a peach. It's more powerful than most competitors, boasts terrific throttle response and is paired with one of the smartest transmissions around. It always knows exactly which of its six gears to select at any given time, and when Sport mode is selected, it quickly downshifts when braking into a corner like the sport-tuned transmissions of luxury brands do. It also doesn't clumsily hang onto revs when accelerating thereafter. As a bonus, the Premium trim adds paddle shifters then let you have some extra fun if you're so inclined.

What other Mazda CX-30 reviews can I read?
2021 Mazda CX-30 2.5 Turbo First Drive A lifted, almost-hot hatch
The turbo engine was a new addition last year. It makes an already fun little SUV, even better, though certainly not to hot hatch levels.

2020 Mazda CX-30 Luggage Test Can it fit more than the Mazda3?
Taking an in-depth look at the CX-30's cargo capacity to see how much luggage it can fit inside and how that compares to the Mazda3 as well as other small crossovers. We also compared it to both the Mazda3 hatch and sedan with surprising results.

2020 Mazda CX-30 First Drive The middle way
Our first taste of the CX-30 features more in-depth information about its design and engineering.

What is the 2023 CX-30 price?
The base CX-30 2.5 S comes standard with 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights, automatic wipers, adaptive cruise control, a full suite of accident avoidance tech (see Safety section below), cloth upholstery, two USB ports, an eight-speaker sound system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and the Mazda Connect interface that includes an 8.8-inch display and center console controller.

From there, you have a choice of three "packages" that are pretty much what other brands refer to as trim levels. We think the Select is best place to start your CX-30 shopping as for an extra $2,300 you gain 18-inch wheels, blind-sport warning, proximity entry, dual-zone climate control, rear air vents, a rear armrest, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and leatherette upholstery versus the standard cloth. The Preferred, new Carbon Edition (pictured below) and Premium packages add further luxuries, most notably a heated power driver seat with memory (Preferred) and leather upholstery (Premium).

All new prices are below and include the $1,275 destination charge (add another $45 if you’re shopping in Alaska).

S: $24,225
S Select: $26,525
S Preferred: $29,495
S Carbon Edition: $30,565
S Premium: $32,775
Turbo Premium: $35,075
Turbo Premium Plus: $36,675
What are the CX-30 safety ratings and driver assistance features?
Every CX-30 comes with a comprehensive array of standard safety features beyond the usual airbags and stability aids. These include forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking (Smart Brake Support), lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and a driver inattention warning system. Blind-spot and rear cross-traffic warning are included on all but the base trim.

Beyond their simple inclusion, these features are also among the best-executed on the market. Most appreciably, they aren't prone to false alarms or constantly beep at you like a scolding nanny.

The government awarded the CX-30 a perfect five stars in every crash test even before the updates Mazda made for 2023. The Institute for Highway Safety named the CX-30 a Top Safety Pick. It received the best-possible ratings in all crash tests and for its front-crash prevention system (both for vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian accidents). Unusually, its base LED headlights got the best possible rating of "Good," while the curve-adaptive upgrade headlights found on the range-topping Premium (photographed above) actually got a "Poor" rating due to excessive glare. The CX-30 also received top marks for the ease of use of its child seat LATCH anchors.

2023.05.29 14:23 Moist-Accountant-516 Potential added cars for Driver: San Francisco

Driver: San Francisco is one of the best open-world racing games I've played. I really appreciated its story, Shift mechanic, and car diversity, but there were unfortunately too few cars for me. I understand that Reflections didn't have a lot of time to model a lot of cars nor were they able to license from certain manufacturers, but just imagine if there were no licensing restrictions. Here's a list of cars that I think would've fit Driver SF.

As you can see, most of these cars are everyday USDM cars sold between the mid-2000s and 2011. I know the Audi A4 exists in the game, but I changed it to a 3.2 FSI model for it to be balanced with the Alfa 159. Let me know what you guys think of the list, and I may add more cars, but I want to be careful with the additions because I want to create a balanced extended list.
I don't know if the Porsches can co-exist with RUF, but the Panamera and CGT don't have RUF equivalents.

2023.05.29 14:05 aye_mau 23’ VW Passat or 23’ Honda Civic?

Is this a good deal for a brand new VW? It’ll be my first new car… I’m 25, a journeyman electrician, going back to college soon while working. I mainly spend my days at home cooking, when I’m not working , at the gym, or going on hikes. That’s my lifestyle. Any suggestions? I’m all ears!

Since it seems that no one can be bothered to search the sub for the word "mechanic" before making a new post, I searched it for you and summarized two years' worth of posts below.
TL;DR the recommendation is almost always "Rising Sun Motors" unless you've got an unusual vehicle or situation. Also, apparently XSrcing has spent the past couple years quietly helping poor people fix their cars for free/cheap, so everyone be sure to buy that guy a beer next time you see him.

2023.05.28 19:01 Able_Possession8736 A Comprehensive Guide to Pro Football Video Game Covers

Covers by Position

https://preview.redd.it/1dzua4o2hl2b1.png?width=600&format=png&auto=webp&v=enabled&s=023c573335e64d21fccc937a44db0ae995510db6

Covers by Era

Decade # of Games # of Games w/Cover Athletes # of Cover Athletes
60s 1 0 0
70s 4 0 0
80s 11 2 (18%) 2
90s 36 32 (89%) 21
00s 40 38 (95%) 36
10s 14 10 (71%) 12
20s 8 4 (50%) 5

We didn't see the first cover athlete until 1985 with Roger Craig. They didn't really become standard until the early to mid-90s after Madden became a big selling point for the early Madden games. The dip in the last 2 decades is because there's just less games, so any generic football games will have a large effect.

The Early Days: 1965-1982

1978: Football! for the Magnavox Odyssey 2 was the first football video game with a cover, but obviously the cover athletes are generic.

2023.05.27 23:58 Plastic_Apricot_4778 Should I keep my 2020 CR-V or trade it in for an older third row SUV?

Hi everyone! I’m a stay at home mom to two little boys under two. I currently have a 2020 Honda CR-V that I bought before kids while I was still working. My payment is $440 a month. Now I stay home with the kids and I’m not bringing in any paycheck. We can still afford the payment, but would love to throw some extra money into savings, pay the car off earlier, and get debt free besides our mortgage. We’re also dealing with being cramped in the CR-V. Both of my kids are in big convertible car seats so nobody can sit in the back with them because there isn’t room in the middle seats. This typically isn’t an issue, but we drive two hours each way every month or two to see my in-laws and it would be nice if one of us could ride to where the kids can see us to keep them entertained. We’ve been considering trading my car in, cashing in the equity I have in it, and getting a slightly older third row SUV with more miles to save money and give us more room. Is this a terrible idea?
Some info about our situation: 1) The current car only has 40,000 miles and is still under warranty. It’s not base but is not the highest trim, it’s in the middle. I owe $16,000 and it’s in great condition (just a few minor scratches from everyday wear and tear) 2) We’re considering a few different vehicles. I love the Volvo xc-90 because of safety, but I’ve also heard some not so great things about them. We’ve also considered the Ford Explorer or a Volkswagen Atlas, but aren’t dead set on anything. The only requirements are that we want something a little bigger (third row) and for sure want heated seats. A backup camera would also be a plus but isn’t a necessity. We for sure don’t want any huge SUVs like an Expedition. I wold consider a minivan but we’d really like to avoid it. 3) My car is the “family car” that gets used for everything and is driven 99% of the time. We do all grocery runs and anything else in it. But, we still don’t put too many miles on it because I can go over a week without leaving the house at all. Just driving around town and going on a couple hour drive to see in-laws and out of town friends about once a month. Ideally this car would last us for a long time, but also we aren’t opposed to buying an older car, paying it off sooner, and then buying a car cash in the next 5ish years. 4)) We’ve also considered trading both of our cars in and paying cash for an inexpensive sedan for my husband and a loan on a third row for me. My husband currently has a Honda sedan (accord I think) that is somewhere between a 2010 and 2012. It has about 200,000 miles on it and for sure has cosmetic wear and tear and probably a few minor mechanical things as well. We would want to just break even on that vehicle because he got backed into a corner and needed a car badly. He bought the first thing he could afford and for sure paid too much. He only drives to and from work (five miles max) each day and maybe once a month to the store. We use my car for everything.
I’m so sorry for all the questions and information overload, we just aren’t super experienced with buying cars. This will only be my fourth car and I’m 30. My very first car was a 2001 Cadillac Catera (if you know you know) that lived in the shop. After that car I was terrified to buy anything used and have to deal with those kind of problems. When I turned 18 I bought a brand new Nissan and paid it off in three years. I adored it (Sentra) and never had a single issue. I traded it in in 2020 and knew going in I wanted the CR-V because I knew it was a great family car and we were starting to talk about having a baby. Little did I know that three years later I would have two babies with no room in the car. My husband has always lived by the motto of “get the cheapest thing you can that runs” which is fine when it’s just you, but isn’t a great ideal for a family vehicle. So we are at a complete loss for an in the middle, used but not TOO used car.
Thanks again if you made it this far. I would love any advice/recommendations you have.

The Most Popular Car On TikTok Might Surprise You
Above the supercars and luxury SUVs, one small truck reigns supreme.

https://preview.redd.it/vt673usbcc1b1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=e190c924bed4a9002abd31d66260ea1ac461a254
TikTok has created a haven for all car enthusiasts to create and view user-tailored automotive content from media, manufacturers, and consumers alike.
Collecting data through hashtag usage, the most popular cars and manufacturers were determined by way of views running into the billions.
Performance-oriented vehicles dominated the list with some notable standouts, while luxury brands topped the list of manufacturers.
That's right, Ford's barebones light-duty Maverick pickup truck is the most popular car on the video creation and sharing app known as TikTok. With origins in lip-syncing video app Musical.ly, the app has amassed 1 billion users monthly and become a hub for memes, viral trends, and branded content. As the app's algorithm learns your interests, it tailors the content you see, meaning car enthusiasts can enjoy the vast automotive side of TikTok.

Analyzing the number of views on TikTok using hashtags mentioning each vehicle brand and model, research by Confused.com revealed the most popular car models and brands on the app. The Ford Maverick topped the list, with over 10.9 billion views and a range of media and consumer content. Scroll through #FordMaverick on the app and you'll find thousands of videos with owners showing off their truck—but none from Ford itself. The official Ford TikTok page is lightly populated and shows no Maverick content, cementing the truck's popularity as relatively organic.

Another Ford follows the Maverick closely, with the predictably engaging Mustang garnering 10.7 billion views. Sports cars and supercars largely dominate the list, with the Toyota Supra and Nissan GT-R taking the next spots and averaging around 8.4 to 9.2 billion views. Subaru's WRX and the Chevrolet Camaro appear further down the list, as does the Lamborghini Huracan, with a steep drop in views to anywhere from 4.1 to 2 billion views.

The content that appears under these hashtags is reminiscent of early 2000s street-racing videos while featuring the more modern advent of POV reactions and model-specific fan edits. With the exception of the Huracan, each of these models has a lengthy enthusiast heritage that creates allure and buzz around each new version, particularly with resurrected classics like the Supra and GT-R.

This makes it all the more interesting that Volkswagen's Passat, a nice but unremarkable family sedan, secured more views than the Lamborghini Huracan at 2.2 billion views. In fairness, the passion of Volkswagen fans across the MK1 Golf rally car to stanced Phaeton spectrum is not to be underestimated. That said, most of the Passat content is wonderfully bizarre, with two popular videos showing an enthusiastic trash-hauling Englishman and some DIY rally light installation.

The data collected also measured the most popular car brands on TikTok and found that BMW amassed a majority of the brand-specific engagement at 53.7 billion views. Mercedes-Benz has the second highest viewer count at 29.8 billion, while Audi and Honda tie for third at 20.4 billion. Ford and Tesla bring up the rear of the data at an analogous 19.1 billion views.

It's worth noting that BMW is by far the most TikTok active company in the group, with official pages for BMW, BMW USA, Motorrad, and motorsports. The content is traditionally consumer- if not fully enthusiast-focused, and features highly produced racing clips, informational explainers, and nostalgic models. And clearly, it is working for the Bavarians.

As the auto industry re-focuses on the next crop of young folks, Generation Z buyers have increasingly expressed frustration with the car-buying process. Manufacturers have scrapped traditional marketing and incentives to create supposedly relatable and engaging content, from TikToks to metaverse experiences and NFTs. Will this ultimately sell cars to the 20-something buyers of today? Probably not, at least not in the 2022 market of markups and inflation, but the creation of this relevant content from manufacturers isn't a lost cause. Meeting Gen Z buyers where they exist is an important step, but vehicles like the Maverick that champion affordability and usability still carry the most weight.

2023.05.25 16:20 BigHeadDjango Series 21 Week 1 - Summer Seasonal Tunes! (Explore The Horizon) by BigHedDjango

Hello everyone! BigHedDjango here, tunes for this week to help you out.
Weekly photo: https://i.imgur.com/3dwixAD.png
Photo by PapaMuneef007. Check out more of their photos in-game!
All feedback on tunes is appreciated - good or bad. Specially when tunes are bad. At the end of the day I am just the mechanic and you guys are the racers. Do not hesitate irrespective of your tuning knowledge or racing skills!
Tuning method: 1. Stock look - stock wheel rims, default wheel rim sizes, no aero (unless absolutely necessary for handling and stability) 2. Max performance with max handling possible 3. All cars tuned vs. Unbeatable AI on championship tracks in seasonal weather. However! Unbeatable AI is broken and bugged. Not every car can win 7/10 random races vs Unbeatable AI without abusing rewind/restart. Very few cars can beat it consistently. Hope it gets fixed soon one day... 4. Bodykit only used if it does not ruin performance

2023.05.24 15:14 Agrivatedfish Looking for input on my first car

Hey everyone! I just graduated college and I’m looking to purchase my first car. I’m currently between three options. Looking for some advice and guidance.
Option 1: 2021 Volkswagen Jetta 1.4SE $24k 38k miles
Option 2: 2010 Toyota RAV4 Sports Utility 4D $17k 68k miles
Option 3: 2017 Honda Civic LX $19k 34k miles

2023.05.24 15:02 DontPaws Purchasing Second X: 2012 Pro-4X vs 2010 Off-road Sport 4D

Im about to buy another X after I got in a wreck with my previous X a couple weeks ago. Im stuck between a 142,000m Pro-4X 2012, for $8k after tax and title, but will need about $1-2k worth of work done or a 2010 Off Road Sport 4D 214,000m for $6k and about $500 worth of work needed. The 2012 is from a resale dealer, I believe they bought it at auction. The 2010 is a private owner sale and has been driven lovingly with mods, additions, and warranty paper trail for the repairs made.
Any thoughts on the choices?

2023.05.22 23:30 medbenjama10 Small oil leak

I have a 2012 VW CC Sport 2.0t. I just recently got the turbo hosing and oil cooler replaced because of an oil leak I’ve had. For over a week or so I’ve checked for leaks and I haven’t had any leaks whatsoever since the fix, but I just drove to my grandmas house yesterday and this morning when I left saw that their was a small oil leak about 2 inches wide. Her driveway where I park, is uphill. Could it just be a residual oil leak because of old oil that wasn’t cleaned on the bottom of my car or could it be that the hill is showing an actual leak that I might still have?

2023.05.21 06:00 code_hunter_cc How to isolate the HTTP headers/body from a PHP Sockets request

Apache
I'm using a socket connection in PHP to post data to an Apache webserver. I'm a bit new to this technique, and I am not sure how to isolate the headers from the body of the response.
Sending Code:
'world');$postdata = http_build_query($postdata);// open socket, send request$fp = fsockopen('127.0.0.1', 80);fwrite($fp, "POST /server.php HTTP/1.1\r\n");fwrite($fp, "Host: fm1\r\n");fwrite($fp, "Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded\r\n");fwrite($fp, "Content-Length: ".strlen($postdata)."\r\n");fwrite($fp, "Connection: close\r\n");fwrite($fp, "\r\n");fwrite($fp, $postdata);// go through result$result = "";while(!feof($fp)){ $result .= fgets($fp);}// closefclose($fp);// display resultecho $result;?> Server Code:
Hello this is server. You posted:
When posting to one server, I get:
HTTP/1.1 200 OKDate: Fri, 06 Jan 2012 09:55:27 GMTServer: Apache/2.2.15 (Win32) mod_ssl/2.2.15 OpenSSL/0.9.8m PHP/5.3.2X-Powered-By: PHP/5.3.2Content-Length: 79Connection: closeContent-Type: text/htmlHello this is server. You posted:
Array( [hello] => world)
As expected. I want to strip off the headers though, and just read the body from "Hello this is server....." onwards. How can i reliably detect the end of the headers and read the body into a variable?
Also, another server I've tested on replies with this:
HTTP/1.1 200 OKDate: Fri, 06 Jan 2012 10:02:04 GMTServer: Apache/2X-Powered-By: PHP/5.2.17Connection: closeTransfer-Encoding: chunkedContent-Type: text/html4dHello this is server. You posted:
Array( [hello] => world)
0 What are the "4d" and "0" around the body text??
Thanks!
PS before someone says use CURL, I can't unfortunately :-(
