Everybody knows that birds do not exist. We are here to ensure that this knowledge extends to the so-called “penguins” that supposedly live on the South Pole of the Earth. In an environment where the average winter temperature is -49° Celsius, the sun is not visible for months at a time, and the only other life there hunts them, do you really think such an organism could survive? It is, therefore, undeniable: penguins can not, and do not, exist.

| https://preview.redd.it/lisum3easz2b1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=426079bd097c3b8df13f043f4af8c4680d8aace4 Industrial settings, such as factories, warehouses, and manufacturing facilities, often involve high-risk activities and the presence of flammable materials, making fire prevention a critical concern. Implementing effective fire prevention practices is crucial to safeguarding lives, protecting assets, and ensuring business continuity. 6 best practices for fire prevention in industrial settings with the help of a fire watch security service provider in High Grove to help minimize the risk of fires 1. Conduct a Comprehensive Fire Risk Assessment Before implementing fire prevention measures, it is essential to conduct a thorough fire risk assessment specific to the industrial setting. This assessment should identify potential fire hazards, evaluate fire load, review electrical systems, and assess emergency response capabilities. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), conducting a fire risk assessment can significantly reduce the likelihood of fire incidents and their severity. 2. Implement a Robust Fire Safety Plan Developing a robust fire safety plan tailored to the industrial setting is crucial. This plan should outline emergency procedures, evacuation routes, assembly points, and communication protocols. It should be regularly reviewed, communicated to all employees, and tested through drills. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) highlights that having a well-documented fire safety plan can save lives and reduce property damage. 3. Regularly Inspect and Maintain Fire Protection Systems Industrial settings should be equipped with appropriate fire protection systems, including fire alarms, fire sprinklers, and fire suppression systems. Take the help of a fire watch security service provider in High Grove for installing these things. These systems should be regularly inspected, tested, and properly maintained to ensure their optimal functionality. According to a study published in the Fire Safety Journal, well-maintained fire protection systems can significantly reduce fire losses and decrease the average number of fatalities. 4. Ensure Proper Storage and Handling of Flammable Materials Proper storage and handling of flammable materials are crucial in industrial settings. Flammable substances should be stored in designated areas, away from ignition sources, and in compliance with safety regulations. Implementing proper labeling, segregation, and containment measures for hazardous materials is essential. Fire watch security guards can help you in this process. 5. Promote Good Housekeeping Practices Maintaining a clean and organized work environment through good housekeeping practices is vital for fire prevention. Regularly remove combustible waste, debris, and clutter from work areas. Implement effective waste management procedures and ensure that designated storage areas are regularly inspected for potential fire hazards. The NFPA highlights that good housekeeping practices significantly reduce the likelihood of fire incidents in industrial settings. 6. Provide Comprehensive Fire Safety Training Properly trained employees are critical for fire prevention and response in industrial settings. Conduct regular fire safety training programs that cover fire prevention, safe handling of equipment, emergency evacuation procedures, and the proper use of firefighting equipment. This should be done by fire watch security guards. A study published in Safety Science reveals that comprehensive fire safety training significantly improves employees’ fire safety knowledge and their ability to respond effectively to fire incidents. Implementing best practices for fire prevention is crucial for ensuring the safety of industrial settings. By conducting comprehensive fire risk assessments, developing robust fire safety plans, maintaining fire protection systems, proper storage and handling of flammable materials, promoting good housekeeping practices, and providing comprehensive fire safety training, industrial facilities can significantly reduce the risk of fires. 2023.05.30 13:02 Der_Sauresgeber For the people saying the game is fun but the community is too toxic
"If a system is corrupt, then the people who adhere to the system and are incentivized by that system are not criminals. They are victims, and the system itself must be tried."
The community is just as toxic as Blizzard and the game developers wants it to be. If they saw toxicity as a huge problem, they would have done more to prevent it.
- People get rarely punished even after being reported multiple times for racism, misogyny, homophobia, or abelism in the text or voice chat.
- The endorsement system does nothing.
- Hiding the career profiles doesn't prevent toxicity, but it sure as hell prevents being able to spot cheaters and smurfs.
- The intransparent ranked system and busted match-making will lead to low-quality matches. A top 500 smurf in your gold game will frustrate at least five people. A gold player in a masters match will frustrate at least four people. Frustration plays a huge role in toxic behavior.
I'd argue that no competitive game out there has a community one would consider wholesome. The competition will eventually turn players against each other. The community toxicity average will always go to the tolerated extreme. But that is part of the game. Blizzard making no serious efforts to do anything about it is also part of the game.
Part of fixing your community is fixing your game.

2023.05.30 13:00 Thalarides ATR in (Your) Conlangs
I'm writing an article for the upcoming issue of Segments, in which I'm going to explore ATR (advanced tongue root). I have a language of my own where I use that feature, and my idea is to put it in a cross-linguistic perspective and see how it fits into the typology of ATR in natural languages (specifically, languages of West and Central Africa, which are particularly famous for it).
I also have another goal in mind: I find that the feature itself is quite underused in the conlang community, and not as well-known to an average conlanger as many other phonological features, and there may be conlangers who would want to use it if they were more familiar with it and knew how to handle it. So in the article, I'm going to outline some limits to its naturalism: what to do if you want to safely imitate natural languages, what kinds of minor tweaks you can make to keep it overall naturalistic but uncommon—if at all attested—in natural languages in this particular configuration, and finally how to take it to a whole other, unnaturalistic level should you wish to.
Here's where I need your help. I would like to dedicate a section to how ATR has already been used in conlangs, even if its usage is rather scarce. So my question is: in what conlangs have you seen it? (I'm not an expert on Afrihili, and it has a seven-vowel inventory that could be described using ATR, but I haven't seen it actually described so, and I couldn't find any processes reminiscent of ATR in it. The pan-Nigerian IAL Guosa apparently doesn't have distinctive ATR at all, which is a shame.) How have you used it in
your conlangs? I'm particularly interested in ATR harmony processes in vowels as that is the focus of my article but other uses are welcome, too!
- What phonemes contrast by ATR? Do all vowels come in [±ATR] pairs or only some? Which ones?
- How do phonemes interact with one another based on ATR? Are there instances of as- or dissimilation with respect to ATR? Harmony or disharmony? Maybe ATR interacts with other features? (F.ex. in natural languages, ATR has been observed to correlate with consonant voicing.) Which interactions are phonemic (i.e. phonemes become other phonemes) and which are allophonic (i.e. phonemes stay themselves but surface as different allophones)? What triggers assimilation/harmony processes, what is their domain? If there are neutral vowels, are they transparent or opaque?
- Does there seem to be a marked value? If so, is it [+ATR] or [-ATR]? Or are they equally marked?
Of course, you don't have to answer all of these questions, and it doesn't have to be technical. I would love to see examples of ATR in action. Like, actual words, phrases, sentences. If you don't have those, you can just describe how it functions. Perhaps, with your permission, I could include some of your descriptions and examples in my article—with a mention or anonymously, as you wish. I saw a couple of recent Speedlang submissions make use of ATR, so maybe their authors could chime in and elaborate beyond their submissions on how they envision it should function in their compositions.
I don't want to spoil too much of my article by giving you detailed examples from my language here, but here's a preview of what I mean.
- Ayawaka /ajawak’a/ has an ATR contrast among mid and low vowels but not among high ones: [+ATR] eɜo, [-ATR] ɛaɔ, neutral iu (phonetically [+ATR]; their [-ATR] allophones [ɪ], [ʊ] would be uncommon but attested in a handful of languages).
- [-ATR] appears to be the marked, active, dominant value, i.e. [+ATR] vowels become [-ATR] under certain conditions rather than vice versa. This is exactly what one would expect from Ayawaka's vowel inventory and not the other way round, which would be extremely uncommon.
- In nouns, singular is often marked by changing the stem-final [+ATR] vowel into its [-ATR] counterpart. This change [+ATR] > [-ATR] then spreads leftwards. Even though it agrees with the previous point that [-ATR] appears to be the dominant value, nevertheless this particular kind of change is uncommon for languages with Ayawaka's inventory. This is what I would call a relatively ‘minor tweak’ that keeps the language fairly naturalistic yet sets it apart from (most) natural languages.

2023.05.30 13:00 xezene The 'Saga Journal' Archive A complete archive of the Star Wars fandom's landmark first fan-run online academic journal (2004-2010)
Hello, everyone. The following archive is my attempt to collect the incredible work of
Saga Journal, the first online academic journal created by fans to illuminate and analyze the six films of the
Star Wars saga in greater depth. It really was something incredible, and reading it again now, it still is. As such, I've decided to share it here, and hopefully preserve it on the internet for all to see once more.
Created in late 2004,
Saga Journal consistently published academic essays over the course of the next 4 years, and then one final time, coming to a close in 2010. Drawing on works of literature, psychoanalysis, history, and comparative media,
Saga Journal featured essays written by fans with a keen eye for the layers within the films, while keeping to a submission standard of quality and style, as each essay contained a bibliography of works cited. From historical analogues to Jungian analysis, the essays often offer worthwhile insights and observations, with pieces of brilliance appearing with some regularity. The incredible effort put into creating and maintaining this journal, as well as the essays themselves, deserve to be preserved on the internet and read.
I encourage everyone to peruse the essays at your interest, and even to share or repost essays that bring you insight, here and elsewhere. I myself discovered
Saga Journal through reading one fantastic essay (
The Perils of Padmé by lazypadawan) and was richly rewarded by checking out the rest
Saga Journal had to offer. The impressive effort of the journal was the combined work of men and women, but it should be noted it was largely the initiative of the women within the
Star Wars fandom to make
Saga Journal a reality. In the course of
Star Wars history, such a detail is worth highlighting, as the films have always resonated a variety of audiences who themselves had much to contribute back to the saga. Without further ado, enjoy reading!

2023.05.30 12:58 coldriverjoe Motor Coolant Over Temperature
Just had this happen to me on my Pro today (5k miles). Truck had been sitting for a few hours outside in a relatively shady spot. Not super hot by any means. Turned the truck on and got a "Motor Coolant Over Temperature" warning message, with the motor temp gauge pegged and red, and a sub message that power was reduced to 65%. As I drove the truck over the next few minutes the gauge reading gradually moved to the center and the max available power gradually made its way back to 100%. I made a 2 hour stop somewhere else and the problem did not return. I checked the coolant level when I got home and it's above the MIN line. There were no lingering warnings and no notification in FordPass. I can't imagine this being a pump issue. Guessing something with the sensor or software. Anybody seen this before? I'm dreading taking it to the dealer and them having to keep it for a while and not be able to replicate the issue.

2023.05.30 12:56 Signal-Extension1311 Constant insecurity in my relationship. Am I just impatient?
My bf (44M) and I (31F)Met in February last year, were in an LDR until january and saw each other 3 times a month on average.
He has a 4 y.o kid whom I adore and who likes me a lot. Bf is clear about that he wants at least one more kid. We've spoken about to stop using protection in a year or so.
I have some self esteem issues and its always been a huge insecurity of mine that he has a kid with another woman. Experienced pregnancy, childbirth etc with her. I told him about it and he was very understanding and told me it doesn't matter because he wants to experience it with ME. Somehow I often feel like I'm not "enough" despite him often planning dates, telling me he loves me etc.
I often feel like he's a bit "slow". It took him over 8 months to tell me he loved me (although he said it first), I didn't meet his parents until February.
Recently I brought up living together and he thinks it's too early, after all we've only lived in the same city for 5 months (we met when I was temporarily working out of town, so I didn't move back for his sake). Asked him for a timeline and suggested in half a year or so which he said thought sounded reasonable even though the says he doesn't "think in timelines".
I often find myself sad and insecure and wonder if I'm just impatient. I was worrying about him not loving me and not wanting to introduce me to his family but I can now see that I was wrong, but there is always something new and I'm not sure how to deal. He says I'm always slightly "ahead" of him which makes it harder for him to take initiative.
Am I just neurotic and unreasonable? Do I need to chill and let things happen naturally? Any advice would be appreciated.
Tl;Dr : I (31F) am constantly insecure about my relationship with bf (M44) and I don't know if it's his or my fault.

Most financiers are aware that the housing industry has periodic booms and busts. Occasionally the market does exceptionally well, and price increases proceed unabated. On the other hand, there are periods of time when prices are low and the marketplace is in a depression, which is the case at present. While a decline in the market may be viewed negatively by some, others may find opportunities to profit from investments in multifamily real estate by consulting with real estate (RE) professionals about Mortgage Reduction Strategy. When the market recovers, you will make even more money with their assistance.
Investing in property involves more than meets the eye 📷
Purchasing an underpriced home is only part of real estate investing. An underpriced home may seem like a decent investment at first, but it exposes the buyer to significant danger. Rather, buying multiple dwellings at once is a superior strategy for real estate investment amid a slump. Income can be generated in many ways from apartment buildings. Having said that, multi-family dwellings do have their advantages.
Investing in many units at once has many benefits. One major perk of buying a multi-unit building through
australia property management is that there is virtually no chance of ever having an empty unit. This ensures that the building's mortgage will be covered even if a tenant moves out, as income from the other tenants will cover the difference. While there is no way to know for sure that all the apartments will be always occupied, the risk is lower than with a single-family home. You may count on help from the rule of averages.
You may be thinking that this means there are more potential problems with a multi-unit home. greater units mean greater problems with upkeep and repairs. Hiring a handyman service, however, can fix this issue. You can save money and keep the building in good condition by leasing an apartment to a handyman and waiving the rent.
So, what if it costs more to own a multifamily building? 📷
The price of a multi-unit property management Melbourne may be more than that of a smaller single-family home, which may deter some potential buyers. Those who are experiencing problems securing a loan may find this to be an additional hurdle, although it may not be as serious as it first appears. The money from the leases can be used as collateral for a larger loan from several lenders. Investment in a multifamily dwelling through
best financial planners Australia can be shared with multiple investors to reduce the overall outlay of capital.
Reduce Danger by Working with Professionals in the Real Estate Industry True, no investment is risk-free. However, investors can reduce their exposure to danger by taking certain measures. 2023.05.30 12:51 Perfect-Concern-4958 put money into pension before tax vs after tax into an investment with 20% ROI ?
my salary now makes me in the 40% tax bracket. my employer pays 10% by default only. I have to options to choose from:
- sacrifice as much as I can into my pension to avoid paying the gov 40% tax
- do not add any extra contributions (only the 10% extra that I get from employer), use the money after tax in to a property investment that return 20% per year.
Option 1 - pension:
0% tax, add 2000£ every month into pension, which returns 7% COMPOUND INTERST on average per year (stock market return)
I will end up with 120K principal + 26K profit = 126K
option 2 - real state
2000£ getting taxed at 40%, I can invest after tax 1200£ every month, with 20% ROI no compound (real state)
I will end up with 72 principal + 18K profit = 90K
does this mean the pension is better ?

2023.05.30 12:49 Alternative-Pen1148 I feel like I have to say yes to his advances at this point
I’m not a high libido individual, I’d say I’m average. I don’t want loads of sex but once a week or every two weeks would be nice. I like the intimacy of it, I love being close to him and the way it improves our relationship. But his libido is lower than mine. He won’t masturbate anymore these days, and we have sex roughly once every 5/6 weeks on average (sometimes we get a great week where we do it twice, and sometimes it can be a few months). Since sex is so infrequent I don’t want to miss out on the opportunity when it arises, even if I’m not in the mood. Often I’ll get into it part way through foreplay so it’s never anything truly un-consenting and I’ll be happy we had sex and often be actively enthusiastic. But I wish I had the privilege to say no when I’m not in the mood and not fear waiting weeks for the next opportunity. It’s kinda like being punished: if I say no then I don’t get ANY sex for weeks. But I feel a bit shitty having to say yes when I’m tired.
Its not fair that he gets it whenever he wants and if he doesn’t then it’s not a biggie for him.

2023.05.30 12:48 INSDAhmedabad300 An Overview of Interior Design Courses Which Will Help You To Take The Right Decision
Introduction In order to make a building's interior a welcome, safe, and functional space for people who use it, interior design combines art with science. Interior designers use their creativity and technical skills to plan, design, and oversee the execution of interior projects. They'll work with the client to get a feel for their needs and objectives, so they can draw on their experience of space planning, color theory, furniture selection or whatever else is involved when designing spaces that are both functional and beautiful.
Career Outlook The career outlook for interior designers is positive. The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that from 2020 to 2030, employment in the Interior Design Industry is projected to increase by 13 % as against an average for all professions. The primary driver of this rise is anticipated to be an increase in demand for interior design services across a range of contexts, including homes, businesses, and healthcare facilities.

2023.05.30 12:47 Fancy-Persimmon9660 The Socialist? Friend or foe?
I’ve been lurking on
Socialism and
Antiwork recently and started wondering whether they could be allies.
They appear to be cognisant of the fact that the system is stacked against us.
However, they also appear to misdiagnose the root cause. They typically say stuff like “Wages are x and rent is X - this is unfair, lets increase minimum wage and tax the rich”.
They don’t seem to realise that you can’t legislate higher wages or effectively tax high income, because of supply and demand and the resultant increase in price. They also seem bitter against capitalists instead of their actual enemy - landlords.
I wonder whether we could bring them to our side, because LVT would fix the systemic issues with the status quo which we all suffer from? But I also fear they may be too far gone and see any form of Capitalism (including GeoCapitalism) as the problem, not the solution.
They might also alienate the average voters we need to win over, because the average Joe might say “If these commies support it, I don’t want to know!”
Thoughts?

2023.05.30 12:46 snack-hoarder What are these red spots and do they require urgent treatment?
I (31F) traveled to the coast (South Africa, Port Shepstone/Durban) over the weekend and got a cold while there. It started on Saturday with a slight cough, my nose was running and my throat was extremely sore on Sunday. Sunday night I had a very high fever. I'm not sure of the exact temperature but it was awful. It cleared a few hours later.
I was also extremely itchy on Sunday night particularly on my face and my butt. It was so itchy and sore I almost cried. My bottom lip, nose and ears were quite swollen too.
Monday (yesterday) I noticed my arms had red patches and welts. I applied a cream called Stop Itch last night and it seems to have helped.
This morning I noticed red spots on my legs. I'm back home (Johannesburg) and my cold has mostly cleared up. My head is still a bit stuffy, but it's mostly over. My lips and ears aren't swollen anymore and the itching isn't agony.
I tried to see my doc today but he's fully booked so earliest I can see him is tomorrow morning. I'm just wondering if I should make another plan or if it can wait.
Oh and also, on Sunday during the day I used nasal spray (Oxymist) and cold and flu tablets at night (Ibumax). I haven't used either since. I also used Vicks cough syrup, took 1 Strepsil, and took an Allergex on Monday morning and again in the afternoon.
Any ideas as to what this is and if it's serious? I feel much better, but the hives (?) Are a lot worse than they were before.
Edit: Sorry the link wasn't working. Try this one.

2023.05.30 12:44 AdChoice7224 Getting into sprinting in my 30s?
To make a long story short, I'm in my early 30s and interested in taking up track, particularly the 100m and 400m. I have found a track/running club near me that has sprint sessions and they say they are open to all ages/levels.
Are there any other people in their 30s that have taken up sprinting? I'm in average shape but not very "athletic" if that makes sense so would need to work on my mobility etc.
Not planning on making the Olympics or anything but always enjoyed watching these events so thought I may as well try, but worried about getting into it so late. Anyone have any experience starting in their 30's? Particularly if you joined a club/team. Thanks!

2023.05.30 12:41 Felixkeeg Separation of Ketone and alpha Bromo ketone
I'm trying to separate a benzyl, phenylketone (rings not equal) from the alpha Bromo ketone reaction product.
Both species are incredibly lipophilic and elute straight away.
Conversion doesn't go to completion, before dibromination sets in unfortunately (cat PTSA and 1.05 eq. of NBS in DCM at reflux for 4 h). More NBS increases the amount of impurities, lower temperatures lead to very long reaction times.
SM and product are crystalline, but tend to oil when slightly impure, so recryst seems difficult.
Any ideas?
