2023.05.30 06:08 HOFredditor With Boston's loss, Blake Griffin remains the only member of the Lob City Big 3 who hasn't made it to the finals yet.
Clippers lob city big 3 (all were all stars and all nba for the clippers): CP3, Deandre Jordan and Blake Griffin.
Kinda sad that the most iconic player for that Clippers team is the one who hasn't gone the furthest in the finals (I believe it was his first conference finals too).
In this quest, Blake is also trailing among the whole OG lob city starting five who also had JJ Redick (2009 finalist) and Matt Barnes (2017 champ).
I'm bored, sorry guys.

2023.05.29 08:30 vbnjghjghjn Who is Derrick White? Meet the unheralded Celtics’ NBA playoffs hero
Derrick White doesn’t have the most glamorous name on the Celtics’ roster.
He doesn’t have the stardom of Jaylen Brown, the All-NBA appearances of Jayson Tatum or even the legacy of veteran role players such as Blake Griffin and Al Horford.
But after Saturday night, when White tipped in a rebound with 0.1 seconds remaining to give the Celtics a 104-103 victory in Game 6 against the Heat, he ensured that his name will be remembered alongside Boston icons John Havlicek and Larry Bird.
White will also be remembered alongside the other player in NBA history whose buzzer-beater occurred with his team trailing and on the brink of elimination: Michael Jordan, per The Athletic.
His NBA All-Defensive Second Team honor means he made an impact recognizable by others.
But the three Division II seasons in college were far from a traditional trajectory into NBA lore.
In the aftermath of Saturday’s victory, the 28-year-old White spoke about returning home to play with his son, Hendrix, who was born in May 2022, according to MassLive.com.
He proposed to his now-wife, Hannah, in September 2020, per WOAI-TV in San Antonio.
“I’m sure [Hendrix] won’t look at me any differently,” White told reporters, “so that’ll be cool.”
White started his collegiate career by playing three seasons at the University of Colorado — Colorado Springs, a Division II school where he emerged as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference freshman of the year after averaging 16.9 points per game.
Following three years, he transferred to Colorado and sat out the 2015-16 season, and White didn’t log his first minutes for the program until the following campaign.
That’s when he launched his future NBA career.

2023.05.29 03:44 OptimusPrimewaffles Dear Blake
Dear Blake, I know what you’re thinking. Don’t do it. I’ve been with you here before, in the bathroom, sitting on the toilet, holding mom’s bottle of Ambian, and shaking, hesitating…just…just waiting to commit. You’re sad. I know it. Downright despaired! Nobody cares about you enough to notice anything’s wrong. They’re too busy with their own lives to give yours any credence. Honestly, they probably wouldn’t notice you were gone until you started to stink up the place. That’s why you’re in the bathroom. They have to go in there. They have to notice it’s locked. Eventually, they’ll get fed up with knocking and just bust it down, and right when they’re ready to deliver the lecture, BAM! There you are. Then they’ll know. No, that’s not it…You’re angry, filled from toes to nose to crown with boiling rage. How dare they treat you the way they do! You aren’t trying to be the center of the world, you don’t even care for attention all that much, but you’d at least like the option. Why don’t they drop in and ask if you want to do something or go somewhere. Sure, you usually say no, but what teenager doesn’t? It would be nice if they at least bothered to try. That’s what they’re supposed to do – try! But, no. The only time they talk to you is when you get a bad grade or they need to “correct” some stupid faux pas you made so they don’t look like complete idiots. No…that doesn’t seem right, either. You don’t know how you’re feeling, do you, Blake? That’s the problem. If you did, you might be able to follow through and take the pills. It’s not weakness, it’s confusion. If you’re going to commit to something so momentous, you may as well know why. I know why, Blake. I know exactly why, and I want to help you. You’re depressed, you just don’t know it, and you wouldn’t want to admit it if you did. That’s okay. Tell me if this sounds familiar: you’re hungry, angry, lonely, tired, and scared, all at the same time. And with it all, you don’t have the energy, much less the desire, to go anywhere, to break out of your bubble and interact in any meaningful way. You don’t feel like you’re worthy of it. How could you be? I’m in your head, Blake. You see your peers living it up and just owning who they are. Look at Brianna. She’s not the valedictorian, but she’s smart enough to be. She just knows there’s no reason. She dances, does community service, has a job, and tons of friends. With a resume like that, and the test scores she humble brags about, what school wouldn’t want her? And now look at you, a sniveling baby, sitting on a toilet, trying not to cry too loud while you shake and hold onto Mommy’s sleeping pills. But all right, it’s okay. Intelligence isn’t everything. You don’t need to be as driven as Brianna. You’d take being Jad. He’s so effortlessly good at the drums, and he’s just so confident in himself. The girls swoon over him, right? It’s a little weird, because, honestly, you don’t think that he’s all that good-looking. At the very least, he can’t be that much more attractive than you, can he? Yet, somehow, he always seems to be flanked by a bunch of thirsty girls while you awkwardly try to talk through messaging apps. They probably laugh at that, the girls. They laugh at your meek attempts to get their attention. You’d feel bad if they talked about you like that, but the sad truth is, not only do they not talk about you, they probably don’t even know who you are. It’s like all the shows and movies about the geeky loner who has greatness thrust upon him and all his fortunes turn around, except you are just utterly unremarkable as you sit on the toilet, trying not to cry too loud while you shake and hold onto Mommy’s sleeping pills. I know how you feel, Blake. I’ve thought these thoughts. I’ve been in the same cloud you have many times. That confusion, that hopelessness is overwhelming. Listen to me: there’s nothing wrong with you. These feelings, they’re not what you should be feeling, not what you deserve to feel, but they are normal, and they will pass. Take a deep breath, count to five, put the lid back on, put the bottle in the cabinet, and get out of that bathroom. I know it’s hard to believe, but high school will end, and with it all the drama and angst that goes with being a teenager. College will come and go even faster, and before long you’ll be out of the competition and into your own. Believe me, I know every adult you’ve ever met has told you the same thing. I know it’s hard for you to think that far ahead. I mean, if you want to get mathematical about it, I’ve lived through five years about seven times and you’ve lived through five years only three times. It’s a weird comparison, but think about what that means. Compared to me and other adults, time has to feel so long for you. Ten minutes for you is like five minutes for me…maybe that’s not true, but I think the spirit of it is close enough. The point is, no matter how bad you feel now, those feelings will go away with time. They’ll come back, but they aren’t the norm, and they aren’t your Fate. Somebody told me something once, I can’t remember who. Maybe I just heard it somewhere. Doesn’t matter. I’d like to share it with you, because I believe it. We are the sum of our choices. This, taking these pills, is a big choice, Blake. It’s more consequential than any other decision you’ve ever made. More importantly, Blake, once you make it, that’s it – you can’t undo it. We may make mistakes, and some of those mistakes will be really, really bad, but until we draw our last breaths, we have the chance to shift the balance of our decisions toward something we can take pride in. We can’t erase the mistakes, but we can do our best to own up to them, to seek redemption, and to help ourselves avoid making them again. Not with this, though. Worse, no matter what other good we’ve done in our lives, regardless of how we’re remembered, there’ll always be that horrible asterisk that outshines everything else. When people think our names, they’ll automatically think of the word – suicide. I won’t patronize and ask you if that’s really what you want, I know it’s not. It has to be said, though. It has to be said, Blake. But I know how this story ends, and I’m proud of you for it. More than that, I’m grateful. Choose differently now, and not only do you remove yourself, but you erase me, this letter, and everything else I love. It’s because of you that I’m here now, Blake. And, without going too deep into it, let me just say that all these things I’ve told you here, you’ll come to appreciate. You’re going to be okay, buddy. You’re going to be okay. It starts with making the right choice now, the healthy choice. Do yourself a favor, Blake. Put the cap back on, put the pills in the cabinet, get out of that bathroom, and go talk to someone. Talk to Mom. Talk to Dad. Talk to Jim. You don’t have to tell them, just talk to them. Remind yourself that there are people who love you. Remind yourself that the mean, evil thoughts in your head are your own insecurities trying to rile you up. Remind yourself that the stupid things people say to you in class or in the hallway are just dumb teenage drama, kids trying to get attention by being as wild, rebellious, and ridiculous as they can be. It’ll pass. You’ll learn to recognize those thoughts for what they are, to use them as motivation to be better. You’ll see those same bullies become kind and compassionate because they have children, and they recognize that there are people out there who act like they acted and they don’t want to see their child be treated the way they treated you. All the while, the people you love will still be there, same as ever, because they need you like you need them. Most importantly, nothing is forever, Blake, the bad or the good. Make the most with what you have. Ride out the bad because you know it will end. Appreciate the good because you never know how long it will last. Most of all, love yourself Blake. Put the cap on, put the pills away, and get out of that bathroom. Don’t lose sight of your hope for the future for traumas in your past. It’s easier said than done, I know, but, trust me, it’s worth the effort. I love you, Blake, and I’m grateful for you and all you do. Take care, buddy. Love, Blake

Love, Blake

All jokes aside, the Lob City Clippers were one of the most entertaining teams to watch in my time as an NBA fan. It'd be nice for at least one of those core players to win a title, even if it's as a bench warmer.

• The 30th anniversary Juan de Fuca Festival begins today, bringing together more than 60 acts on five stages and dozens of artisan and food vendors at the free street fair in Port Angeles.
The Vern Burton Community Center and grounds, 308 E. Fourth St., is the hub for the celebration of music and art from around the region and beyond.
The street fair, which will also showcase 18 Juan de Fuca debut artisans — local entrepreneurs vending for the first time — will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today through Sunday.
The Five Acre School Soundwaves marimba band will play on the Community Stage outside the Vern Burton center at 4:15 p.m. today, and then comes the opening ceremony for the Juan de Fuca Festival at 5 p.m. On the mainstage inside the Vern Burton, live music starts at 5:30 p.m. this evening and continues through Sunday, with the closing act, the Americana band Rose’s Pawn Shop, starting its mainstage show at 8:30 p.m.
This year, those 17 and younger get in free to the festival, and students 21 and younger with valid ID pay half price.
Three-day passes for adults are $100, while single-day passes are $30 for today, $55 for Saturday and $50 for Sunday. The Juan de Fuca Festival’s new mobile app offers ticket sales and information, as does its website, JFFA.org.
• The Memorial Weekend fundraising festival in Brinnon continues this weekend with a new name and new focus.
It will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at 251 Hjelvicks Road, Brinnon, off U.S. Highway 101. The gate fee is $10 per day. Children younger than 12 are admitted free with a paying parent. Active military and veterans are admitted free with ID.
ShrimpFest began 30 years ago to celebrate the plentiful Hood Canal Spot Shrimp and raise funds for such local causes as schools, food banks and animal rescues. This year it has a new name: the Hood Canal Fjord Fest.
No spot shrimp will be sold in bulk. However, the famous shrimp will be part of dishes made by some vendors, along with other seafood and specialty locally sourced dishes, some of which are detailed at
https://www.facebook.com/HoodCanalFjordFest.
• Pianist Lisa Lanza brings together the cream of Port Townsend’s young musicians and some of their equally talented elders for a Memorial Day weekend concert Sunday to perform for the benefit of Ugandan AIDS orphans.

2023.05.27 03:55 big--b Australian Survey Guide Earn $30-$70+ a Week!
As I've been doing surveys for a few years now, I figured I’d share some of my top survey sites as well as a couple of typical questions I’m asked by friends and family. As with all survey sites, these won't make you rich overnight but do add up over time - doing a 15-minute survey for $5 every day adds up!
Here are my top 5 survey picks for Australians:
Octopus group ($16.80 per hour of surveys)
- Pros:
- The consistently highest-paying survey site in Australia.
- The support staff are quite active and will respond to emails quickly.
- Occasionally assigned tasks that pay upwards of $30 for 15 mins!
- Withdrawals are paid every Monday (if submitted by Sunday)
- Cons:
- Survey numbers can be a bit inconsistent. Some weeks I've gotten over $40 worth of surveys and in others, I've gotten $5 worth.
- Have had some technical issues with some surveys in the past. That said support has always been quite helpful and I've almost always got paid in full for my surveys.
- $20 minimum withdrawal amount (to your bank accounts).
Humaniti ($15 per hour of surveys)
- Pros:
- Similar rate to Octopus; quite an underrated site that isn't used as much as it should!
- Decent $5 signup bonus by using my referral link.
- Quiet quick payout times. Despite saying it may take up to 30 days I've never had to wait longer than 3 days to receive money when I withdraw.
- Also has an inbuilt budgeting/money management app. I'd recommend linking an old bank account for extra surveys.
- Cons:
- App and surveys can be a bit buggy at times.
- Similarly to Octopus, survey quantity can be inconsistent.
- $20 minimum withdrawal amount (to your bank accounts).
Prolific ($10-$18+ per hour of surveys)
- Pros:
- Decent payout rates! Paid in GBP (which equates to about $1.8 AUD per GBP. This can be converted into AUD and transferred to your bank account from Paypal.
- Quite a decent amount of surveys. Good to keep the website open in the background and check somewhat regularly if you can. You'll get notified about some of the larger studies/surveys. Have been able to earn about £100 in the past couple of months.
- Actually somewhat interesting surveys. Unlike most surveys, some of these are actually quite fun and engaging e.g. behavioral/psychometric ones.
- Paid every Tuesday or Friday.
- Cons:
- No mobile app, have to check quite regularly on their website to get the best surveys. Typically have it open in the background at work.
- Potentially long wait time to be accepted to take surveys. Really depends on your demographics and if they're in high demand; took me a couple of months but took some friends a few mins.
- Quite a few profiling questions you'll need to answer before you start receiving a decent amount of surveys.
- No referral/signup bonus.
- $5 GBP minimum withdrawal (to Paypal).
Pure profile ($9.8 per hour of surveys)
- Pros:
- Decent mobile app.
- A large number of surveys! Often have $20-$40 worth of surveys available for me to complete. Will typically use this app when I'm bored and waiting for surveys from Humaniti and Octopus Group.
- Cons:
- Long payout time (assuming you aren't taking gift cards).
- Not as great a $ to-hour ratio as Humaniti and Octopus (is still consistently better than most).
- $20 minimum withdrawal amount (to your bank accounts).
Qmee (Varies significantly)
- Pros:
- In my opinion, one of the best-designed app interfaces.
- Can withdraw instantly to Paypal for as little as 1 cent!
- Cons:
- Surveys vary dramatically in payouts. Can be as good as 10 min survey paying $3.30 to as little as 15 mins for 30 cents.
Some typical questions I'm asked by family and friends about surveys: - Q: How much can you expect to make from surveys?
- A: Personally, I’m able to make anywhere from $30-$70 a week from surveys for a few hours of work. This number varies significantly depending on the number of surveys I get (and on what sites) as well as the amount of time/effort I’m willing to put in.
- Q: How do I get more surveys?
- A: This largely depends on how interesting you are! Remember, companies are paying to hear from specific types of people. Some examples:
- Have children = Surveys on your kid's eating habits
- Smoke/gamble = Surveys on your smoking/gambling habits
- Manager in an IT company = Surveys on your company’s IT practices
- Ultimately, the more relevant niches you fill the more surveys you'll receive.
It would mean the world to me for you to use them if you're interested in using these sites! A lot of them will also provide you with a signup bonus (such as the $5 one from Humaniti). Happy to answer any questions in the comments you may have about surveying in Australia!
Thanks!
