Advice on new car purchase

2023.05.30 08:09 zarababy2144 Advice on new car purchase

heya, so i’m purchasing a jeep 08 commander with the intent to do a 3.5” raise and wrap it - there was a service done on the car (by the dealership) with no repairs needed on the report - however when taken to an independent dealer by the dealership (i live interstate so they offered to take it somewhere independent from their dealership for my peace of mind).
a couple things came up:
both noted to say that’s a repair for the next service which isn’t due for another 6 months according to the dealership.
are these things they should be fixing before purchase or is it right in saying it won’t need repair for another 6 months? i’m a female so i know next to nothing about this stuff and any help would be appreciated :)
thanks !

2023.05.30 04:19 Significantchart461 Clutch failed on 2021 Jeep Wrangler JL with 22k miles

I've been having weird issues with my clutch for the past week and had scheduled an appointment for the 14th of june with the jeep dealership but today a complete clutch failure happened suddenly and it feels like the pressure plate just went out. This is insane to me someone who has 10 years of driving stick shifts. I absolutely babied this vehicle day one
I know there is an active recall on the clutch assembly for the JLs but my dealership prior to the clutch failure did not want to do anything because there was no fix out for it yet. What are my options?
I would be willing to go through the fca reinbursment but I dont want to put the same faulty clutch design back into the jeep and also the risk they deny my reinbursment claim. I have yet to find out if the dealership will even fix it under warrenty.
I have geico Mechanical breakdown insurance. Idk if there is success justifying to them this was not a failure of normal wear and tear.

2023.05.29 22:18 PascalsPotOdds Burning oil?

Got a 2022 3.6 last year new. I did an oil change around 600 miles for break in with a new motor, ran a magnet for metal and didn’t find any. Then I just did another oil change a little early at 4500 miles. It was a good 1.3 quarts down. Is this standard for this motor? I know my TJ with a 4.0 straight six burned a good quart or so between changes but I guess I expected the 3.6 to not do that, especially brand new. I have a couple free changes that came with the Jeep, but the last time I took it to the dealership with my wife’s Cherokee, they impact drove the oil plug back on which shedded the plug and ended up having to retap the pan. So I’d like to avoid going there if I can.

2023.05.29 17:56 KiwiEconomy1781 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Air Suspension

Hello All,
I recently joined the Jeep family, bought a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland. Love it so far. but recently I noticed something and it kind of worried me, I noticed that the rear left side of the car goes down when the car is off. When I turn on the car it goes up again. only the left rear side. I took it to the dealership the other day and they told me that the air suspension compressor and the valve block needs replacement and it would cost around 2500$ CAD for it to be fixed. I am hesitant to spend this on it especially the fact that it goes back to the normal elevation after turning up the car.
Could it be due to spring airbag leaking and when the car is off it drains all the air from that side and when turning the car on it the compressor works and it fills up the bag again, when I bought the car everything seems to be working fine. I only replaced the rear shock for that side cuz it was leaking oil and nothing was done to that side. Any issues if I keep driving it while having this issue.
Any feedback will be appreciated.

2023.05.29 05:27 party-opossum MISSING PERSON: Jordan Boone (1 1/2 year old case, new breakthrough/evidence found by tiktok creator confirmed by local authorities)

MISSING PERSON: Jordan Boone (1 1/2 year old case, new breakthrough/evidence found by tiktok creator confirmed by local authorities)
Hi y’all! I’m coming here to share a recent missing person case that has gotten some attention on tiktok, but seemingly nowhere else.
I’m going to preface this by saying I am definitely not a researcher or writer (I’m a barista in most of my spare time) but something about this case is just entirely transfixing me, and I am just wildly shocked that it’s not getting more attention. Given, most of the recent breakthroughs are still pretty, well, recent and fresh, I’m sharing the small bits of information I’ve seen in hopes that someone here who is actually talented in research or someone who has the ability to boost this might feel as moved by this as I have and look into it as well.
Admittedly, there has been virtually zero press on this – I have personally found no official coverage on this outside of the tiktoks I’ll mention, NamUs, and a Facebook page made by the missing person’s family. I’m going to do my best to be as true as possible to the very limited information I’ve been able to find.
So, I’ll start where I first found this case: 6 days ago (5/22/23) @ ry_of_the_desert on tiktok (https://www.tiktok.com/@ry_of_the_desert), Ryan, a creator who posts adventures of him discovering historical and archaeological finds mainly in deserts, made a post of him coming across a chair, backpack, hiking backpack, and guitar, as well as some blankets and clothes in the middle of a desert in Utah (about 40 miles outside of Moab). It’s chilling as these items clearly belonged to someone (I can re-post some screenshots of his video, but I do recommend you watch the original), and he ends the video by saying he’ll later post what all he found at the site in the backpacks. He posted a couple days later saying that he’s been in contact with authorities and there had been a “breakthrough”, so to respect that, he won’t be posting the contents.
Earlier today (5/28/23) Ryan posted another update, in which he sounds clearly affected and openly struggling to put this situation into words. He explains that within a couple days of posting the video of him discovering the items, a family reached out to him and were certain that the items were all belongings of their family member, who had gone missing more than 1 ½ years ago. He later gets a call from the family saying that they have confirmed the belongings officially with authorities. Their missing family member is Timothy “Jordan” Boone, a 36 year old man who went missing in August of 2021 with a pitbull mix dog. In his video, he shows side-by-side pictures of Jordan wearing the clothes that Ryan found. Ryan ends the video saying that he is back in the desert where he found Jordan’s stuff, camping out to search for signs of where Jordan might have gone. He says he doesn’t know why Jordan was there or where he went, but he’s going to do his best to figure out where he went from there.
All the info I have going forward has been things that I’ve found on Jordan’s family’s missing person’s page (Missing: Jordan Boone and Lily the pit mix dog - https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100082821130300) – for the sake of condensing, I’m going to paraphrase, but I HIGHLY suggest you visit this page for the family’s full story.
On August 1, 2021 Jordan was heading towards San Rafael to camp in his camping van with his dog, Lily, and his brother’s dog, Cooper, that he brought with him. Jordan is bipolar and was experiencing mania at the time, so his family contacted local law enforcement to keep an eye on him. Apparently his van got stuck due to some local flooding, and it’s believed that he had to abandon it and went to find help, taking the dogs and the belongings found in Ryan’s video (the guitar in particular had huge sentimental meaning to Jordan).
On August 3rd 2021 a passing couple picked him up and brought him to Huntington, Utah and was checked out by EMTs, where he was found to be dehydrated and was wearing a wet-suit (apparently like a SCUBA diving wet-suit? details are scarce). An officer set him up in a hotel room and contacted his family. From the facebook page: “We told the officer we were weary of him being left alone with the mental state he was in. He would experience paranoia when he was manic and thought the government was conspiring against him.” He left the hotel on his own.
Later they find out that he went to Moab from there, because 2 ½ weeks later they found an incomplete statement from a phone company where he tried to get a phone on August 4th. He did not have an ID or money, so they did not let him buy the phone. His brother’s dog, Cooper, was found alive 3 weeks after he left the hotel, about 30 minutes from where Ryan found his belongings. His family says that they don’t think that he would ever leave his guitar unless he had to, and would also never consciously abandon Cooper.
His family says they don’t remember when (and were never told where) Jordan’s van was found, but that his wallet and computer were found inside and that one of the windows was broken.
After leaving the hotel, Jordan and Lily were next seen in Nucla, Colorado, and were believed to be there from August 11th 2021 - August 16th 2021, possibly as late as August 23rd 2021. His family does not believe that he will be found in the desert area where Ryan found his belongings. There has apparently been no other searches conducted in the area, except for Ryan himself searching the area in his personal time. I cannot confirm that there aren't any searches being planned – just that I see nothing currently confirming that there are. There’ve been no statements concerning this.
According to his family and NamUs, there was no official missing person report listed by the police until July 7th 2022, nearly one whole year after he went missing, due to some sort of error the authorities made (a potential reason for there being literally no press coverage or official statements on this). The family went to the SLC Police Department to ask why he was not listed and why they would not return their phone calls. He is on NamUs now. Here is his NamUs page with details and pictures of him and Lily: https://namus.nij.ojp.gov/case/MP95074

He has non-colored tattoos that were not uploaded on his NamUs (there are some pictures of these on the Facebook post):
-the Star Wars rebel symbol on the back of his right hand
-a round eagle on the back of his left hand
-an eagle feather attached to a daisy on his left forearm
-a bird on his upper left chest

The family says there are more details, but that these are the ones that matter. I can not find any more information at all except for what has been shared by his family and on his NamUs. I recommend going to their Facebook page to get more insight on Jordan and to see who he was as a person from his loved ones and the people who miss him. I might share some other things and comments I’ve noticed pertaining to the tiktok, but from here it’s mostly conjecture on my part and I want to keep this as fact-based as possible. I am getting the impression that his disappearance was not taken seriously due to his mental illnesses.
Whatever the case, my heart breaks for him and his family, and I am just hoping that this will reach the eyes of someone, even just one person, who could help make a difference in this case. Thank you for reading!

2023.05.29 02:04 pheeel_my_heat Repairs

Only 3k miles in and I have check engine light on and weird thudding when car naturally slows down (bought an engine code scanner and it shows nothing). All the dealerships in the area have a 2 week wait for appointments and they said they won’t even get the car back same day most likely. Is this expected with a jeep? I heard about them always having issues and clearly that must be why there’s a 2 week waiting period. I’m used to be being able to take my car into a Firestone dealership and getting car back same day.

2023.05.28 08:36 ant326 Hood latch 2013

I have a 2013 Jeep wrangler and my hood latch broke. How hard is it to fix? The rubber part broke on my drivers side door. Should I wait for my dad to get home on Monday or can I fix it myself with the new hardware I ordered on Amazon? Or should I drive it to the dealership just 3 miles away?
